Thak you, Denis.
Have you read the P.S. in my a/m post above?

Have you read the P.S. in my a/m post above?
You are right, Denis.
Re: Location
Instead of C:\Users\Michael\Desktop\
It shows C:\Users\Michael\Dropbox\PC\Desktop\
In case of a shortcut, it shows: F:\Michael\Desktop\
What I'm wondering about, why there is a 'Dropbox\PC\', and how to get rid of it?
Mike,
DropBox is a utility that you installed or the PC maker installed before you got it.
I've never used it but I understand it's some sort of cloud storage utility.
If you don't want it then uninstall it.
You can then check the paths shown in the Registry for your user folders to make sure no references to DropBox remain.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders
I suggest that you check if the path
F:\Michael\Desktop\
exists & what is in it and, while you are at it, check what else is in F:\Michael & in F:\ itself.
Then you can decide what to do with any files in there and any shortcuts to them.
Best of luck,
Denis
I installed Dropbox long ago, and have used it for many years. Some time ago I uninstalled it since some problems on my desktop. Even so, I uninstalled the Dropbox, its folder exists. Dropbox told me that this is normal.
Here are the screenshots of registry and Windows explorer:
Mike,
Before making either of the changes mentioned in this post, I urge you to make a new system image and to backup your own files.
1 DropBox is still affecting your user account's folders. It is mentioned in their paths. By the way, the entry labelled Personal means your Documents folder.
If you want to tidy things up then use the tutorial procedures.
Restore Default Location of Your Personal Folders - TenForumsTutorials
2 I don't know what the F:\ drive is. It looks to me as though you tried to relocate your user profile [and all your user folders] there but the Registry extract you posted shows that you failed.
I have never wanted to do this but I'd use Karis' guidance if I was going to -
Move Users Folder to another Location - TenForumsTutorials
As I understand it, this action can be useful for gamers. Games can take up huge amounts of storage.
I don't know of any reason to consider it for other users.
I imagine that the safest way of doing this would be to restore all the folders to their default locations first [i.e. my para 1].
I'll double-check then post a reg command to export your User shell folders list to a text file for ease of reference in the future.I've never known the reason for the Shell folders Key, most of it duplicates User shell folders.
I'll also include that Shell folders list.
There turned out to be a reason for my not having a sample command to hand ready to be posted. It converts the entries to hex which makes them unintelligible.
Export them manually instead and they stay as readable entries.- On the left-hand side of the RegEdit window, right-click on the desired Registry Key [in this case User shell folders],
- Select Export,
- Browse to a convenient folder & write a name such as UserShellFolders and leave the SaveAsType as .reg [this is very important] then click on Save,
- Finally, use File explorer to go to the chosen folder and add an extra file extension .txt onto the .reg file so it becomes UserShellFolders.reg.txt
- You can now treat the file as you would any other text file including opening it in Notepad to read it.- - If you ever needed to restore the entries in that Registry key, you would drop the .txt at the end so it became the UserShellFolders.reg file again and then double-clicking on it would "merge" it back into the Registry overwriting any changed values you'd put in since then. You can repeat this procedure for the Shell folders folder as well.
- - Don't be tempted to take a short cut by Exporting it in text file format in the first place. Those exports have a terrible layout that is difficult to read easily and they can never be used to "merge" back into the Registry.
All the best,
Denis

Mike,
On a more general note, given that you seem to have tried to relocate your user profile, I wonder if that is what is causing your SFC problems.
It seems to me that the attempt might have left inconsistent entries in your user profile. SFC should not be affected because it is only concerned with system files but I don't know what collateral damage the failure might have caused.
Are you keen to retain your current user profile? Perhaps you could make a new one that you allow to stay where it is [and check its registry entries to make sure they are normal].
Denis
Dear Denis,
I'm not sure I understand what the user profile is. I didn't recall that I ever tried to relocate my user profile. What inconsistent entries are you speaking about?
Please explain.
Mike,
The user profile is the combination of the *.dat files that are normally in C:\Users\Michael. It contains what you see in the Registry in the HKCU Key.
This tells me that you relocated or tried to relocate your user profile. That Michael folder would normally be in C:\Users\Michael only and those Program files folders would also normally be in the C:\ drive only.
This is not consistent with having relocated your user profile. It is also inconsistent with having uninstalled DropBox.
All the best,
Denis
Dear Denis,
In regards to the DropBox, please refer to: Login - Dropbox
There are already 2 pages in this thread. I just installed the DropBox again in order to disable the Backup.
In regards to the "F:\Michael" - I copied some of my files when I reinstalled the OS several months ago. My HDD had failed.
As I said, I didn't try to relocate my user profile
P.S. here is the link again:
