Unable to Set New SSD Drive to C

My C boot drive was nearly full so I had to purchase a new 1TB SSD (NVMe) and install it in a spare slot.

Then I proceeded to 'clone' the C onto this new SSD and with EaseUS Partition Master extended the partition to use all the space since a 'clone' only partitioned to match the original.

But now, I need to change the new larger SSD drive letter to C and am not able to do so.

When I try to change 'C' to 'X' (temporarily) so I can change 'G' to 'C' (G is the new SSD clone of the old C), I get "The parameter is incorrect."

I can understand why because it is the boot drive and the OS is currently running off that drive.

But how do I change my new drive to 'C' so it will be the one booted on?

    TIA

    Hello @riqrat,

To give us a better understanding of your current Disks setup configuration, please post a screenshot of your Disk Management.

Make sure that ALL the text in ALL the columns is visible and showing the whole window.

Now UPLOAD a screenshot of your partitions using one of the following methods . . .

    > How to Post a Screenshot of Disk Management
    > How to Upload and Post Screenshots and Files at Ten Forums

This might be a job for Mini Tool Partition Wizard.

I have never used EaseUS Partition Master so I do NOT know its capabilities.

    I hope this helps.

Unable to Set New SSD Drive to C-2022-09-24_16-25-12-medium-.png

Disk 2 is my original SSD that contains the 'C' boot drive.

Disk 3 is the one that I want to be the new 'C' boot drive.

It is an EXACT clone but I need to set it to 'C' drive to boot from it.

I have GParted also but don't know how to change drive letters using it as it looks 'Linux' like which I'm not familiar with.

    TIA

You just need to select it from the boot menu.

Select to boot from that disk in bios boot menu. Or use the one time boot menu pop up which is usually coaxed to appear by pressing F12 after the post beep.

before you do that, create a text file on the desktop of your source system and give a name such as this-is-source.txt

Thank you. That doesn't work. It comes up stating I need to insert a bootable device and restart. The drive is an exact clone of the bootable drive but it doesn't have the 'C' drive designation. So it does not like it.

Usually, either there was a problem during the clone, or the signature has changed.

It has got nothing to do with the letter it shows as in diskmgmt in your currently booted system.

I'm running Macrium Reflect clone again and when done I'll give the boot another try. Will report either way. Thanks.

That is probabaly not necessary, it is quite easy to fix in most cases.

But if you have already started another clone, dont stop now.

I did the reclone and tried to boot off it. Still tells me "Reboot and Select Proper Boot Device or Insert Boot Media..."

You say there is a fix?

Thanks for your time. I got it to work. It didn't work through F10 boot but changing boot order if Bios did the trick. Your mentioning the diskmgmt earlier got me thinking.
