    Upgrade from 1909 to 20H2

I just got a "new" laptop that has apparently been on the shelf for a while. It has 1909 on it. Anybody had luck going from that straight to 20H2 without installing 20H1 first? I know it's usually best to install all new versions in order, but there is so little difference between 20H1 and 20H2 that I'm hoping a shortcut could be possible.

When upgrading you can install 1607 and upgrade to 20H2.
So upgrade from 1909 to 20H2 with the upgrade assistant.

If there is success then that will complete the thread.
If the upgrade fails then record the error message and code for troubleshooting.

Don't see why not. They share the same code base. 20H2 is just an enablement CU that triggers it. I'm sure there will be a much further very detailed fact filled explanation of "same code base", but suffice to say, it will work.

I don't think there is any truth in that. I have previously upgraded a W7 machine to the original release of build 10240 (1507) then successfully upgraded that directly to the (then) current 1909.

Why did I use 1507 first, you may be wondering. Well the W7 machine had Office Starter 2010 installed. Microsoft say that all versions of Office 2010 are compatible with Windows 10 except for Starter 2010. From version 1511 on the W7 to W10 upgrade insists on removing it. But the very first release didn't, and all subsequent upgrades will leave it in place if it slipped through the initial upgrade.

Thanks very much, zbook, TC and Bree. Since I have a good Macrium backup, I went ahead and tried it shortly after I posted. Everything worked perfectly, although it took forever. I haven't added the NVMe to the laptop yet and it was all done with the slow 5400 rpm HDD spinning away.

I did it on my wife's mini-ITX PC (from 1909 to 20H2). Why? Because, for some odd reason, I could never upgrade from 1909 to 2004 on that machine. First time I tried a 1909 to 20H2 upgrade, it worked. Go figure!
    Best wishes,
