Win10 1803 to 1903 upgrade fails 8007007B Failed to mount WIM file

    Hi there

I have been trying to upgrade my Windows 10 installation for months now. Previously it was blocked on an 8007003 error which I overcame by correcting the image path for wimmount.sys in

    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WIMMount

But now I am hit with a new error in the attempted upgrade with the code 8007007B, which mostly seems to be due to activation but not in this case as Windows is activated fine.

See the following from the update logs:

I have seen similar errors caused by third party driver filters (like here) so I tried removing Avira Antivirus and it made no difference. This is the result from fltmc filters is anyone can see any more harmful ones:

Filter Name Num Instances Altitude Frame
    ------------------------------ ------------- ------------ -----
    wcnfs 1 409900 1
    cbfs6 <Legacy>
    FsDepends 16 407000 0

    luafv 1 135000 0
    npsvctrig 1 46000 0
    Wof 13 40700 0
    FileInfo 16 40500 0

I have also noticed that the file it's trying to mount does not exist....

I have tried totally clearing out all windows update files and redownloading. I have tried using windows update assistant. I have tried updating from iso. All result in the same failure.

Does anyone have any ideas? Cause I'm all out.

Oh and I definitely do not want to do a clean install if there is any possible way under the sun to avoid it.

    Many thanks in advance.

Post an image of Disk Management. Make it full screen and expand all areas so everything can be seen.

See this tutorial: Disk Management - How to Post a Screenshot of

Make sure you expand the fields as shown so all data can be seen.

Disconnect everything except mouse and keyboard, everything.
If you have more than one hard drive, disconnect the cables to them so only the boot drive is connected.

I have quite a few disks.
One SSD for OS. One SSD for games.
And the rest are all mechanical SATAs merged together into one large drive with Drive Bender.

    Please download and install: Everything
    voidtools

Launch the application and search for any of these Panther logs (only from the prior week)

    Code:

    folders:
    \$Windows.~bt\sources\panther
    \$Windows.~bt\Sources\Rollback
    \Windows\Panther
    \Windows\Panther\NewOS

Setupmem.dmp may be found in either (depending on when the bucheck occurs)
    %SystemDrive%$Windows.~bt\Sources\Rollback
    %WinDir%\Panther\NewOS\Rollback

    setuperr.log
    setupact.log
    Setupmem.dmp
    setupapi.dev.log
    BlueBox.log
    Event logs (*.evtx)
    C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Rollback
    $Windows.~bt\Sources\Rollback\setupmem.dmp
    $Windows.~bt\Sources\Rollback\setupapi\setupapi.dev.log
    $Windows.~bt\Sources\Rollback*.evtx

    Please answer these questions:

    1. Actually are you trying to upgrade using Windows 10 Media Creation tool or an ISO image?
    2. If from an ISO, did you created with Media Creation Tool?
    3. You said that you made change in the registry to the entry "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WIMMount". Can you post a screenshot?
    4. When you run the upgrade did you select "Download and install updates" option?
