    Windows Installation Failed

    Been trying to install Windows 10 from 8.1 for several months on and off.
    I have used USB and DVD. I have gone through countless online guides that are supposed to help you troubleshoot this error message. None provided any luck. Finally thought I had it.... updated BIOS as the new BIOS needed some microcode for Windows 10. Still got the "Windows 10 installation failed".

    Here is my paste bin. 2019-11-13 10:15:22, Error MOUPG CFCAcquirerDCAT::GetCTACAttrib - Pastebin.com

    Just throwing this out there before I do a clean install. I really do not want to, but I may have no other choice.

    Hi, welcome to tenforums. Basics:
    Please provide the following:
    - full specs of the PC in question
    - use the V2 log collector here and upload the results as a zipped attachment
    BSOD - Posting Instructions
    - screenshot of your partitions using a 3rd party partition manager- not Disk Management
    To post a screenshot please use the Insert Image icon above your post.

    - Full details of the error message generated when you try upgrading based on launching setup.exe from either a mounted iso file or a bootable installation disk
    - upgrade log files as appropriate e.g. setuperr.log, setupact.log, zipped as an attachment - for ref:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/...sion-of-window
    - confirm you have uninstalled any 3rd party security software and disconnected any unnecessary peripherals
    - you have attempted the upgrade without accepting updates (if you get as far as that prompt)
    - whether your PC has received a prompt to upgrade to Win 10 via Windows Update

    Please be aware there is absolutely no guarantee of succeeding here- some surrender and clean install after some days of effort.

    @zbook- another for you..!

    Sigh.
    The law of diminishing turns. I could spend hours trying to get it to work, or just do a clean install and reinstall what I need in that same amount of time.

    I will think on it. From what I read, no one really knows and I will have to do a clean install anyways.

    As @dalchina suggested, this kind of error can be solved by running an in place upgrade. I faced the same error a few months ago. I describe the step my step fix in this post

    Not sure how that works since I am on 8.1 and trying to get to 10. So I reinstall 8.1?

    For troubleshooting:

    The logs were incomplete.
    There were reported problems related to G: and C:

    A few things come to mind:

    Are you trying to install 32-bit or 64-bit version? Make sure you have the right one.

    Are you connected to the internet while doing this? Maybe try to disconnect beforehand.
    Also maybe restart the PC first before attempting to install again.

    Ugh. Not worth it. I will do a clean install. It is simply the law of diminishing returns. I could spend hours doing research that will most likely not even result in anything, OR I can spend a few hours installing a clean 10 and software and drivers and have a 100% chance of a working product in the end.

    As for drive G... the system does simply not have one.
