Windows 10 asking for activation after attempt to update from 1804

Jeepers...trying to attach files, and lost the whole she-bang. Well, here goes again. After an attempt to update W10 pro...everything went as we say in Germany, crooked in the pants...(schief in die Hose) Office Apps stopped working, (error opening, repair option no result)

Once upon a time I was an MCSE+Internet+Exchange...back in the days of NT4 and ending with Server 2000. This Windows 10...well, out of my skill set it seems.

Just to let you know, I spent the last two days searching the web, and Forums here for a solution...tried them all, no luck.

I believe all the problems lie with the fact it is now asking for activation. I even went as far as to drop the dosh (259€!) for a new license....no joy there, it is not accepted. I spent an hour on the phone with a Microsoft "representative" in India, and after a bit of remote desktop, he told me that my BIOS was not able to handle Windows 10...hogwash. I have been running Windows 10 for over a year. System is running and ASUS MB, with an AMD processor...around six years old or so.

    Errors: 0xC0000022, 0xC004F014, 0xC0000225.

Before I lose the text again, I will post, then upload the Licensing results, Windows diagnostics, and Key Info.

    All the best from Germany...

    Jonathan.

Well, maybe I need to copy the text of the files?

Your problem is that the licencing service is not running

    Code:
    Service Available: false
Try repairing system files sfc /scanow and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

NOTE: Remove the key from your post - it's not needed for troubleshooting

Edit: I see @Brink beat you to it... LOL

    Welcome to TenForums @KrispyKris,

Never post your full retail key on the internet, should someone find and use it before you do, then you will loose any chance of using it yourself If you must post a document contains a key (because the rest of the info is relevant) then replace the first groups with the '*' character, like this: *****-*****-*****-*****-YY49G.

Once upon a time I was an MCSE+Internet+Exchange...back in the days of NT4 and ending with Server 2000. This Windows 10...well, out of my skill set it seems.

That takes me back, MCP in Exchange Server and NT4 Server here. W10 is really not that different under the bonnet, it's recognisably a linear development from the first Windows NT 3.1.

The installed key is the generic one, but your retail key was a valid one. You should be able to activate by changing the installed key to your retail one. You could try your W7 Ultimate CoA key first, if that works then you have a spare retail key for use elsewhere.

If the repair does not succeed online, it's most likely permissions corruption of the licencing files which must be reapaired on the offline image - i.e from Recovery/WinPE boot.

For recovery Select Settings->Update & Security->Restart now (under Advanced Startup) or boot the ISO and select repair in the bottom left corner (more likely to work).

Select the troubleshoot option to get to command prompt (you want to be at X:\Windows\system32).

Then get the offline image drive letter with diskpart and run the offline sfc and dism commands on that image.

In the eg. below I'm running from the online image C: but targeting the offline image D:

    Code:

Try the new cross-platform PowerShell https://aka.ms/pscore6

Well, I got a bit of sleep. I noticed the fault I made last night when running sfc /scannow and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth. I copied and pasted, and did not notice that "scannow" was missing an N, as well as thre were two operations in one...BTW, I did most of this yesterday since I read all your posts under the Error 0xC0000022...
