Windows 10 Home. Media Creation Tool Won't Work.

Hi Stanley, welcome to Ten Forums.

From PRO to HOME, a clean install is the only way, you cannot do it by "downgrading". Backup all your personal stuff like documents, pics and music, then create a USB installer with Media Creation Tool and boot your laptop from it.

You have basically two options: either buy a Windows 10 PRO license (product key) and use it to activate your current installation, or start from scratch and clean install Windows 10 HOME.

The first option would let you keep everything already installed on that laptop, making it legal and licensed, whereas the second option would require you to reinstall all software.

I am not sure what you mean?

If you clean install Windows 10 HOME, it will be automatically activated with a digital license based on the hardware signature and the fact that you have already had HOME edition being activated on that laptop.

If you want to keep PRO edition, you'll go to Microsoft Store and buy a license, then activate it in Settings > Update & Security > Activation selecting Change product key (tutorial). That's it.

Please could you clarify the situation -
1 What Edition of Windows 10 did you have before you took your computer to that "tech"?
2 Was it activated?

The OP never said what OS was on the PC before it went into the "tech". The tech may have done the free upgrade to 10 who knows? It might be worth while seeing why its not activated. Maybe 10 Pro can be saved and activated?
They also said "I decided to go legit, and buy a download version of Win 10 Home." There may not be any DL for Windows 10 for that PC? If so I hope they have a valid product code.

Calm down, read original post again and try to think a bit before posting. If OP is trying to "go legit" by downloading and trying to install HOME edition, what do you think it means?

It comes quite clear from original post (if you really read it and stop to think it before posting) that originally the laptop in question had HOME edition. What else do you think OP meant when he told he wants to "go legit" and therefore is trying to install HOME edition.

I'm calm. I read the original several times before posting. Your assuming it was 10 Home. It could very well have been. It might not have been Windows 10 at all though. All I'm saying is it doesn't hurt to confirm what the original OS "was".
And the OP did say " and buy a download version of Win 10 Home. Your conveniently ignoring that part. Why buy if it already had 10 Home? It could be that that's not what the Op meant? clarification would help.
You don't like to ever be corrected in any shape or form so I'm not surprised by your attitude. You should probably follow your own advice and think things through a bit more before posting and not make assumptions.
