    permanently disable external monitor

    Hi all,

    I have a laptop which is connected to an external monitor via a dock. It's wired only "just in case". I can disable the monitor in Windows and that's fine but if I unplug and re-plug the dock cable it will detect the monitor again and enable it again.

    Is there a way to tell Windows "I don't want you to use this monitor, ever, unless I tell you"? I tried via intel Graphics control panel but it didn't work. This is a Lenovo 8th gen intel processor with integrated graphics.

    I am on Windows 10 22H2

    Thanks!

    It will always be that way unless you change the registry.

    Hi
    The monitor is being used for other inputs and Windows detects it as long as it's powered on - even though displaying a different input. Yes I could unplug it but I was hoping not to have to fiddle with cables and have it there ready to go.

    My laptop is a gen8 and it's getting tired, every time I wake it up it takes a while for windows to fiddle with the detection of the monitors and usually that messes up all my windows on the desktop :)

    @bro67
    I'll try that thank you!

    The laptop is not getting tired, your Windows install is getting loaded in that there is more that it needs to do before getting to allowing the user to be able to do something.

    I reinstalled it not long ago and... it's tired :) It's tired with a fresh install, then with stuff on it it gets worse! Very usable of course.
