    SFC unable to fix problem

    Hi all,

I just had a problem with defender not starting and through help I got from the "AntiVirus, Firewall and Security" forum cured it.
I thought it best to do an SFC check to see if any other gremlins were about and this is what I get after the scan.
I checked the CBS log file and the only fault I could pick out was it could not fix onedrive. I checked services to see if it had been disabled but it’s not even listed. Then my memory kicked in! I’ve got a vague recollection of deleting onedrive, (At my age I forget to put my teeth in when I go out) so I really don’t know what I did to be honest.
Anyway, what to do now? The file is 94,000, (weeelll) pages long so I didn’t upload it or should I?
    TIA
    Harry

You run the DISM command line stuff and alternate that with the SFC which you have already used.
Do those until both are clear.

Use DISM to Repair Windows 10 Image

    Option 5.

If you do system mods like removing certain elements of Windows then you have to expect more problems.

SFC fixes corruption by copying a fresh version from the component store. When SFC /ScanNow finds problems it cannot fix, then that is due to there being corruption in the component store too.

To repair the component store run Dism /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth. Restart then run SFC again.

If SFC could not fix something, then run the command again to see if it may be able to the next time. Sometimes it may take running the sfc /scannow command up to 3 times with Fast Startup turned off and restarting the computer after each time to completely fix everything that it's able to.

If not, then run the Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth (requires Internet connection) command to repair any component store corruption, restart the PC afterwards, and try the sfc /scannow command again....

Thanks to all you guys for the help. I ran the DISM and it came up "system restored", then ran SFC but got the same error message so ran DISM again, same result- "system restored", ran sfc three times, restarting between but still get the same error.

Helmut....you are spot on, at my age I should know better than mess around with something I know zilch about. Pheeew, you'd reckon I would have learnt by now

I never worry about SFC errors. With all the tweaks and other modifications I've made it will always throw up errors.

If you removed OneDrive and SFC wants to fix that - don't even worry about it.

The SFC tutorial tells you the Dism command to run [in the notes at the end of Option 3] and also tells you to connect to the internet before running it.
    SFC - TenForumsTutorials
I don't know if you were online or not at the time.

And Option 5 tells you how to extract the relevant results to post here if you have any remaining problems.

I had uninstalled avast previously using the avast tool and deleted any files found in the "Everything" program but following your advice I just ran it again in safe mode. One avast folder was found in C: program files/common files, deleted it and rebooted.
    Windows defender is now running.
The only update available is KB5034441 which will not install for whatever reason.
    Rebooted.
    Ran tuneup plus.
