    Windows 10 Random Black Screen

    Good Day All

Has anyone ever seen this - I have a user who works and then all of a sudden the screen just goes black - Application seem to continue but screen just goes black ? The only way to recover from this is to force restart the device
I have checked under event view but cannot find anything unless i am looking at the wrong locations ? ( I have scanned through the Application and System Logs but cannot find any events triggered at the time when it happens ?

Maybe someone else has seen this and has any idea what it could be ?

    Note this is very random

I believe it can be for hw instability or graphics driver issue. Have you tried ctrl-shift-win-B? It restarts the graphics driver under Windows 10 or 11.

Years ago and in other OSs like Windows XP, I diffusely recall prompts telling that the graphic adapter had been restarted, and I also recall there was a setting in the drivers about doing this automaticly, on by default. In modern times, I once recovered with the said keyboard shortcut in Windows 11. I did not check logs but it seemed to be a mess between the timers to launch the screen saver or turn off the monitor and my own actions in the middle of a heavy task. Once in Windows 7 it happened in the middle of a backup, I waited for the HD LED to stop and some more, rebooted with the reset button and the backup logs said "successful", files sizes and times etc were normal.

I believe that hw has "fuses" to shut down or drop subsystems. Frequently these events don't get noted down for the nature of the issue. If the Windows disk is dropped it could be or will normally be a sudden reboot. The graphics can be shut down and in this case the Windows session can survive "without echo", or "thinking" it's doing echo. The above shortcut exists for a reason.

If it happens frequently I'd replace the graphics driver, try with another gfx card if you can replace it, possibly other hw parts like memory or PSU, see if it happens in a fresh Windows install,...

    Thanks for the info
Yeah i also think it might be the driver or such
Will update the driver to the latest version and if it happens again use that key combo and see
Only thing that bothers me it there are no logs of this and it happens randomly

    Hi All

I believe this issue was solved

I did a full driver re-install and no further issues reported

I used the drivers from the Intel site as they were much newer
