PC randomly restarting while in sleep mode?

I have my PC to auto sleep after an hour or two of being idle. For the past 2-3 weeks, at some point while I'm sleeping (and my PC is in sleep mode), my PC reboots itself. I checked Event Viewer and it happens because of the same Critical Error every time:

(The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.)
    [Event ID: 41]

Other things that could potentially be helpful: I don't have much open; maybe a Firefox window and Signal/a couple lightweight programs that I typically use. I have the PC/Monitors to sleep after an hour and the hard disk to shut off after 2 hours.

This problem seems to happen multiple times a week. I estimate the chance of it happening every night at around 15-20%. It's a relatively new problem, but I can't think of anything major that I've changed in the past month or two.

Hi, this seems to be an abrupt shutdown which means nothing diagnostic is likely to be captured.

Once again.. separate hardware from software. Your problem sounds more likely to be hardware.

Simplify, eliminate, substitute (where possible), identify.

Does it crash if the O/S on the system disk isn't running?
    - you can disconnect the internal disks and boot your PC from a live boot disk (Google if you don't know what that is) and leave it 'long enough' to see if there's a crash.

Boot to Safe Mode and leave 'long enough' and see if there's a crash.

    Are you over-clocking?

Is it over-heating? (Have you checked?)

Are all RAM modules compatible and consistent?

    PSU issues can cause this.

    Hardware faults can too.

Have you run RAM tests? Stress tests?

Unfortunately it will require without being able to check each component individually a lot of patient experimentation to try to learn as much as you can.

First see if this helps: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/tr...-id-41-restart

Also, try running in a Clean Boot. If this works, you can keep it this way, or you can add one or more Startup / Service Items at a time until the behavior returns, then you will know the culprit.

If that fails, follow the previous suggestions and test each hardware component separately on another computer.

    I'll help you out.

    1) Open Command Prompt as an Administrator, and paste:
    powercfg -lastwake
to see what last woke up the computer.

    2) Paste this:
    powercfg -devicequery wake_armed
to see the devices that could wake up the computer.

    3) Search for, and open: Device Manager
For example, double click the item under Keyboards
    Press the Power Management tab.
Uncheck: Allow this device to wake the computer
    Press OK
Repeat these steps for all the other entries listed in Command Prompt.

    4) When complete, re-paste the following into Command Prompt:
    powercfg -devicequery wake_armed
and check to see if there is anything else that could wake up the computer.
