Wild scrolling again- persists after reboot

Composing this on iPad. PC barely usable. Automatically scrolling despite that option being set OFF. Toggled it on/off several times. Rebooted. Help!

This is 21H, see I have an option to install 22H ‘Preview’?

    - - - Updated - - -

Went ahead and updated to Version 22H2 (OS Build 19045.2673) - and SO relieved that it has fixed the problem.

Any thoughts on what was happening please, with a future reoccurence in mind? Here's the setting I mentioned, that had no effect. Catch 22 so I couldn't even search for help on the PC. iPad to the rescue.

    Terry,

Your "barely usable" comment makes me think you were also experiencing this in active windows.
    Is that correct?

I think this has cropped up in previous threads.
It is also the subject of a current thread - is this the only one having this mouse problem - TenForums

    Best of luck,

Thanks Denis, but I don’t think that issue is like mine. Mine was uncontrollable vertical and/or horizontal scrolling whenever the mouse cursor was in any window that had a scroll bar or two of them.

Just as if that setting was ENABLED.

It’s not the first time it’s occurred.

Did you try a different mouse?

Well, if it's fixed now, then there is nothing to worry about.

Well, call me a worrier then!

I'd still like to understand it better, possibly to
    - minimise the chance of its happening again out of the blue
    - minimse the recovery time (especially for someone without another device at hand to seek help).

    Terry,

I make frequent system images & I always retain the last few of them.
If I was hit with a serious problem I would restore the last pre-problem system image.

Incidentally, I only just noticed some odd wording in your OP. 22H2 is not a 'Preview', it is the current Windows 10 Version.

    All the best,
    Denis

    Hi Denis,

So far I’ve fortunately never had cause to use my weekly Macrium image. I expect I’ll find it daunting if it happens. But if you’d experienced the behaviour I described you’d appreciate why I fear it would be impossible.

That also probably explains your other point about 22H. The WU section of Settings was itself very hard to use. I was unable to see the full details because as soon as I scrolled to the top, that part disappeared in a fraction of a second. I consider myself lucky to click what must have been the right button when I glimpsed it. I could just about read the word ‘preview’ at that point. I suspect that the Macrium recovery windows might have been equally difficult to work with. Although hopefully if I chose that option during the reboot option instead of ‘Windows 10’, then it would have been stable?

    Terry,

If it happens again, you could also consider disconnecting the mouse and navigating around by using the tab & arrow keys along with keyboard shortcuts.

I assume you have a Macrium boot disk and/or a Macrium entry added to your boot menu.
There's no reason to expect either of these to be affected by the problem so you should even be able to use a USB / WiFi mouse in their interface to restore a system image.
Tabbing & arrow keys will also work. I have tried it; it's awkward but it's possible.

    All the best,

Thanks, I’ll switch off my Logitech wireless mouse as a first step next time. And then try a different mouse by plugging in an old USB version as bro67 suggested.
