Yes, I upgraded the CPU, MB, and system SSD. I have the original SSD installed as a backup. I cloned that drive to the new system SSD after MS re-activated my license.
Do you know if you BIOS is up to date and all drivers were up to date on the new SSD? Do you have any 3rd party antivirus, VPN, or firewall installed on Windows? Did you have an extraneous hardware other than keyboard, mouse and display attached when you started the in-place upgrade?

Don't let anything happen to that backup SSD

Maybe boot from it and make a fresh current Windows Install USB using MCT: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10 as 1703 is very old.

OK, I'm preparing the USB now...

I also have the backup image I could restore.

Updated BIOS to latest yesterday. Had not gotten to driver updates. Just Windows Defender, no 3rd party VPN or firewall. No extraneous hardware.

Awesome! Generally in-place works, but sometimes, as here, it's not - not yet anyway.

Update drivers before you try again. How long did in-place attempt take once you started?

How would update the drivers when I can't boot? As I said, ran maybe 10 minutes, spent 30 at 66%, and perhaps another 10 minutes before BSD.

Clone your good drive again and start over if booting from Windows USB and trying repair option doesn't work.

I would also unplug any extra disks you have attached other than the one with Windows on it if the others are not necessary to boot Windows.

    USB Startup Repair failed.

I'll make an image of the original SSD, update the drivers, and then re-clone the new SSD.

I had the ISO on a SATA drive, not the system SSD (I never keep data on the system drive). Was that a mistake? Should I move the ISO or just try again from the USB?

I would try from the USB at this point.

There's going to be a delay. I started installing the driver updates and all of my SATA drives disappear. I've got to figure out how to get them back.

Okay, thanks for the update. Try booting into safe mode and see if they come back.
