I created a new local account and other than an exception error on startup- something about external app (Japanese operating system), it shutdown fine. I ran safe mode with networking and it shutdown fine. I have been running Auslogics Driver Update on free mode it only allows one driver update per 4 hours or so and gradually updating 12 drivers one had a 1967 driver. Not sure the sensibility of that given this computer has custom Fujitsu drivers but it seems to running a little better. The software creates backups so it should be all right.

The fact that Safe mode worked alright indicates that there is something non-Windows that is causing the problem. I suggest you repeat the experiment several times so that you can confirm that Safe mode always behaves correctly.

If Safe mode results are consistently good then you can identify the cause by using the very long [and tedious] Clean boot procedures.

    Hi cloa513,

After confirming that everything is working correctly while using Safe Mode, you could post the Startup tab of your Task Manager and someone may identify a troublesome app.

This could save the tedium of Clean Booting repeatedly while enabling/disabling different apps and gauging performance results between boots.

Be sure to expand the columns from the top, using drag & drop, so that nothing is hidden across the first 3 or 4 columns. Also, click the top of the status column to sort by enabled. The entire window can be resized using drag & drop if required.

Today the problem is appearing as a shutdown/sleep disorder, tomorrow it might appear as something else and possibly more serious.

Windows might have an impairment caused by a third party app, it's your choice to gamble that it won't bother you in future.

I wouldn't care to have my PC in a state where it may fail to operate, you might feel differently.

Here from safe mode with networking. See if you can see any problem apps.

I suspect it could be the login because I often when shutdowning after changing users get the nag message of other users may lose data even though nothing was open in other user.

You've displayed a screenshot of your Processes tab which isn't the same as the example in Post #13.

Please review my example and post a screenshot of the Startup tab.

Be careful to expand the columns like I advised in Post #13.

That sounds more like an unsuccessful logoff of the previous user.

Could you please confirm that while logged in with your original user in Safe Mode that shutdowns are behaving normally?

Using Safe Mode and using a newly created user should be two separate tests, not a combined test.

Shutdown is fine on Safe Mode.
    Sorry about the wrong information.
    Thank you for your patience.
I just disabled Edge from the Startup

The shutdown nag message happen after switching user- is it always necessary to logout and login.

Please qualify your answer. Was this successful Safe Mode operation performed while using your original User or the new user created for test purposes? If not using your original User, please test again.

For future reference, it's best to provide any and all information at the start of your fault thread, I'm referring to your mouse problems in the thread you've posted earlier and now disclosed.

If you successfully booted to Safe Mode using your original User, please perform a Clean Boot while using the original User and post results. After a clean boot, does the shutdown/sleep problem disappear? How about your Mouse problem?

If the problem remains after a clean boot, please uninstall McAfee using the McAfee uninstall tool and then retest using a Clean boot again. All non-microsoft apps must be disabled for this test to be valid, no exceptions.

No worries, remote troubleshooting while you & I have never worked together is expected to be challenging.

Windows 10 doesn't treat my wireless mouse as a mouse
It worked fine until my son smashed it so it doesn't work at all. I don't remember how that issue fixed itself.

I successfully booted as the original user in Safe Mode. Given the shutdown/sleep mode issue hasn't happened in last dozen shutdowns, testing its nonexistence will be impossible. Given I had serious problems with Sleep before so I just don't use it.
