Can't enter BIOS/UEFI or boot from a device

    Hello!

There is a frustrating situation on my new laptop Lenovo ideapad 3, any help would be much appreciated.

I starterd a clean install of Windows 10, booted from USB, and in the setup I deleted all the existing partitions (which is my primary suspect for the cause of my problem), made a new one and the installation started. An error occured and I had to cancel the installation. I did another attempt which was succesful, but I set up boot order from a simple boot manager, not from BIOS/UEFI. Windows run normally but I can not enter BIOS/UEFI to make some changes. What I have tried:

    1. Pressing all the hotkeys upon startup. For Lenovo it is F2, but I tried every F key, with and without Fn key.
    2. In the Recovery tab, Advanced startup, Restart now option there is no restart to UEFI firmware option. It is simply missing.
    3. From CMD I have tried shutdown /r /fw. Did not work.
    4. I wanted to boot from USB Windows installation disk so I could manualy recreate EFI drive, but a) I can not set to boot from USB in BIOS/UEFI, and b) there is no Use this device option Advanced startup options. I have failed to boot from USB,and do not know if there is a workaround.
    5. I did a full reset of the Win 10 pro from Advanced startup options. Use this device and Restart in UEFI firmware options are still missing.

I did not open the notebook to mess with the BIOS battery and clear the CMOS because it has valid ongoing warranty.
The computer supports UEFI, but under Sys info it says that it is in Legacy mode.

Thanks for all the answers in advance!

Welcome to the forum. To use uefi you will need a bootable uefi install usb and you will need to convert to gpt disk How to Convert Legacy BIOS to UEFI in Windows 10 - Make Tech Easier

Getting to the bios is tricky as 10 boot to fast so you need to restart from windows and keep hitting the f2 key the second it reboot and keep hitting it. Depending how simple it is to remove the hd removing it to get to the bios would work

Please make a new bootable Windows 10 iso flash drive directly from the Microsoft website:

    Download Windows 10 ISO File

Thank you for the answers. Much appreciated.

Getting to BIOS with hotkeys does not work. As I've said, I have tried surely about 100 times with different combinations of F keys w/o Fn key. What I have accomplished is that the system hangs on "Lenovo" welcome screen.

I already have bootable Win 10 USB, created with Media creation tool, with which I can do nothing because I can not enter BIOS and force the system to boot from USB, while at the same time there is no option "Use this device" in advanced startup option in Windows to make it boot from USB inside Windows.

Converting to GPT will not be a problem as soon as I get to BIOS so I can boot from usb.

Lenovo are somewhat unusual amongst manufacturers in that they have a special dedicated button to get into the bios called the NOVO Button.

It does not. I have already tried all these solutions.

The problem is that all the presented inside Windows solutions lead to the same point - Advanced startup options in which I do not have Restart to UEFI/BIOS option. Unfortunately there is no Use this device option to boot from USB in the same menu, and it should be there.

This particular Notepad does not have Novo button.

You can only enter the bios when powering up from cold. If fast startup is enabled in Windows then you are performing a warm start up (a form of hibernation). Turn it off then try again.

Turn On or Off Fast Startup in Windows 10

All Lenovos should have a NOVO button, but in some models it is hidden in a tiny hole at the side of the laptop.

Where can I find the OneKey Recovery (Novo) button on ideapad laptops - Lenovo Support US

    Step
    2. When the Lenovo logo appears on the screen, press F2 repeatedly. Note:For computers with hotkey mode enabled, press Fn + F2.

If you have fast boot or ultra fast boot enabled in your UEFI firmware settings, then you will need to temporarily disable fast boot or ultra fast boot to be able to boot from a USB.

How to Enable Fast Boot or Ultra Fast Boot in UEFI Firmware Settings for Windows:
Enable or Disable Fast Boot in UEFI Firmware Settings for Windows

    1. Try another USB stick
    2. Try all USB ports (2.0 and 3.0)
    3. Maybe when using UEFI Bios you have to temporarily switch to Legacy in BIOS settings
    4. Turn off temporarily fast boot, secure boot, CSM if enabled
