Why Does File Explorer's "word count" never work?

When you select word count to be displayed for file properties in File Explorer, it never, or barely works, as you can see from this screenshot.

How is it possible that such a basic feature doesn't work. Isn't both Windows 10 and MS Office made by the same company?

Here's your screenshot posted with forum features (preferred) so people can see it easily:

What are the file types of those files? I understand this is only supposed to work for doc and docx file types.

It doesn't work for me, but I don't have Office installed either.

Can at least 5 people enable this in File Explorer to see if it works for them?
It's quite bizarre why such a basic feature wouldn't work.

It works just fine for me. I have winver 2004.

Belatron, it would be worthwhile to complete your 'My Computer' and include all of your hardware and winver. This issue could possibly be related to your OS version.

According to that support answer, it should work for all documents - .doc .docx - created in MS Word, but it doesn't.

Manually inserting NumWord data field every time seems to work in the new folder I'm looking at now. Overall, super sloppy, half-assed implementation.

Both Windows 10 and MS Office are updated to the latest versions.
