Hi I just fired up my old Acer Aspire SA80 PC today to see if it is still working, and I got this message during boot up Preparing Automatic Repair, it's something I've never seen before so I done a bit digging for a solution, but they all seem to be fixes for newer machines.
Anybody got any ideas how I could fix this on an older PC like mine any solutions welcome thanks.
Hi, are you experiencing a repeated automatic repair loop - or a one-off attempt with a failure?
There's no one guaranteed fix - it depends what sort of corruption has occurred. There are some useful approaches and tools in this thread:
Automatic Repair Loop, Your PC did not start correctly
such as Kyhi's live boot disk, Macrium Reflect's boot disk and Fix boot utility.
The latter is more complete than Window's Startup Repair (from Advanced Startup options or a Win 10 boot disk).
You may need to examine the partition structure and check the disk, which you can do with a live boot disk such as Kyhi's.
Or you may prefer simply to rescue what data you can.

Hi I won't go in to the full details because not really needed, but the whole idea of swapping over the drive to the Acer was to see if my Acer could cope with running Windows 10, as I had no working drives on my Acer, but it's kind of backfired.
So is there anyway I could find out if the Acer could cope with running Windows 10 despite having no working drives, some kind of free program that I could boot from a flash drive or cd preferably flash drive, thanks.
You can try booting from a Win 10 live boot disk such as Kyhi's just to see what happens.
Google Kyhi's live boot disk; download iso, use e.g. instructions in tutorial for creating a bootable disk to install Win 10 but use Kyhi's iso.
Before you do so, consider whether that PC only had 32bit drivers provided. If so, trying to run 64 bit Windows may well be doomed.
Thanks again for the reply, yes I think it was running 32 bit, you're probably right probably is a non runner.
Whole reason for this in the first place, I had the idea to upgrade my Dell Optiplex with a new SSD to run faster, but realised I could only have one drive, and I wanted a fast one for Windows, and the other just to store data.
Only too have two drives I would have to sacrifice my optical drive and I wanted to keep that, that's why I thought of my old Acer, but maybe it's just too old lol Thanks.
You could try a clean install of Win 10 32 bits just to see what happens.
It supports 2Gb RAM max partly used as shared graphics, so a 32GB O/S would be more efficient, although the PC itself is stated to run 64 bits.
It was originally XP 32 bits, no 64 bit drivers

I would suggest you use build 1903: you can download a copy- see Heidoc iso downloader:
Download Windows 10 ISO File
Create a bootable disk using that with appropriate options:
Create Bootable USB Flash Drive to Install Windows 10
Clean install using the Win x license you have:
Clean Install Windows 10 Directly without having to Upgrade First
Hi if I go the route of creating a bootable windows from a flash drive, and I have to put in the old product key that I have on my Dell that was upgraded to Windows 10 ages ago using the free upgrade.
Will I run into any problems as I recently got a new laptop that is also registered to me with a different product key, Thanks.
What Windows key do you have for the Acer? Only XP? Do you have a spare Win 7 or 8 key anywhere (retail)?

You may wish to decide if you aim to license the Acer or not.
You can do a trial installation to see what happens, no key.

No, no spare key, but would I not be able to use the key that I have on my Dell if I get the Acer up and running, as I'm only planning on running one pc, and that would be the Acer if I get it running, because as I said it's the better option with two drives.
And as for the laptop I got, I got it from CEX second hand but it's running slow as treacle, so it's going back for a refund but I need to wait on them opening back up for that to happen, I only really need one pc and I thought get a laptop for a change, but personally I think pc towers, will always be faster unless you're buying a brand new laptop lol which cost a fortune, thanks.
With an old computer,the ability to boot from a flash drive is doubtful.
If you visit---plop.at---you might find a suitable method to modify the BIOS and add a flash drive to the menu.It is a safe site.
Just refresh your memory on how to restore the BIOS to Default.
