    Not able to save screenshots

    Hello,

For a while I have a weird issue with saving the screenshots. I get the animation (screen gets darker) but screenshots wont be saves in Pictures/Screenshots.

I have checked the permissions, I also saw the fix with registry and adding the screenshotindex value and to point it to the folder is user shell folders, but that didnt worked either. Actually, the number in screenshotindex (which indicates the # of screenshots, wont change at all)

Even after a format, I still have the same issue. Any ideas?

Latest fast version 19592.1001, but this happened even before joining insiders

What are you using to take the screenshot?

Have you tried a 3rd party program like Greenshot just to see if it works?
If using Snip&Sketch, try Snipping tool.

Just the regular win key + print screen.

Win key plus print screen saves to the clip board
if your not in a hurry you can open Paint and paste it . then save it as
    whatever you want.

True, it does also save to the clipboard. But the screen dimming indicates it it has saved the screenshot as a file somewhere - the question is where.

The only other place that it could be saving to by default is OneDrive. Right-click on the OneDrive cloud icon in the taskbar's system tray and select Settings. See if the 'Automatically save screenshots I capture to OneDrive' box has been ticked.

Exactly which Registry entry are you looking at? Post a screenshot showing the folder path it identifies.
    - The Screenshots folder is identified in
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
    {B7BEDE81-DF94-4682-A7D8-57A52620B86F}

I'm a HUGE fan of Greenshot. Windows options add too many steps. Even Mac's way is too cumbersome.

ON A MAC I used to have to hit CTRL SHIFT 4 (I think) and that would add a target square, I'd drag, and boom it's on my desktop. Since sometimes I'd do the 3 keys wrong I'd have to try it again. So that's 4 to 8 steps depending upon my luck.

The native Windows thing was even more steps. It would ask me where to save things, what to -- so many questions.

If you set GREENSHOT right it's 3 steps ==

    1. Prt Scrn button
    2. Draw square
    3. It's on the desktop

But what's nifty about this app is you can set ANY key you like and set any location afterwards. Also set what kind of image, what quality. It takes a little time to set up right but once there you don't look back.

I'm a fan of snipping tool, use my downloads folder for saving. Windows Button with PrtSc needs an extra step, but so does changing the name. Both work but Snipping tool is more versatile.
