    How To Remove Recent Files..

    ver 1903 build 18362

I don't like that recent files thing coming up in explorer all the time.

very embarrassing, people can see where I've been...

So I google how to remove it and places like Tom's hardware spell it out quite clearly...

But, as so often seems to happen, what they say I'll see I don't see... the choices they talk about I don't have, don't get..

Open explorer, click view, change 'open file explorer to ' this pc'...

right there. I don't see any 'open file explorer to' thing?

Is this just my own sub standard intellect or is it really true that virtually all web advice on how to do things in win10 have been broken by recent changes to win10?

anyway... how about this one... can I quickly, easily get rid of this 'recent files' thing?

and while we're at it I'd like to get rid of that 'today', 'yesterday' , 'this week' or whatever it is... they've got dates on them, I just want a file listing.... that's the downloads folder I think isn't it?

Change Group by Folder View in Windows 10

Try View, Group By, None in file explorer.

lovely, thanks. exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about... I have no choice to group by none. I see the 'group' icon or whatever, but it is greyed out, it doesn't let me use it to change any group options...

just me, my weird world, weird machine, weird head or something - or other people get this ?

'None' is only present if objects are already 'grouped by'.

    Can you post a screenshot?

And try searching (Google, tenforums) using
file explorer "group by" greyed out
    exactly as above

Ah... I've learned a little more by slowing down and opening my eyes. Trouble is explorer is opening in 'quick access' mode. This 'recent files' thing is a function of 'quick access'.

I googled and found the way to alter how quick access works. I've unchecked the boxes in the privacy section and now we're set to go. Found it in blogtechline: did this:

    • Open File Explorer and go to View tab > Options > Change folder and search options.
    • Choose This PC from the top drop-down menu.
    • Uncheck both boxes under the Privacy section.
    • Press Clear to clear all of your Quick Access history. ( optional

and even then they didn't say it but you have to be in 'desktop' when you open explorer. tiny thing but enough to throw off dumb users like me. you're opening explorer in 'quick access' and those options won't be available....

actually I just discovered we can simply right click 'quick access' in the explorer tree and select options... it's so easy..

    thanks for the help...
