Hi. Same problem here. Affects just Outlook+Word+Excel+Powerpoint Online, etc. All just 8x8 pixels. Within Start tile, and Start apps list. No other icons affected. So the generic icon resize here not applicable. Tried icon cache rebuild, no change. Looking like a M$ cockup, no? Suggest remove the Solved flash from this thread, no solution as yet exists.
Not in the 13 hours since I posted, no. I'm hoping posting results in a reply from someone with a fix. I could just uninstall Word Online etc. I don't use them, want them, or install them myself. Rather M$ are auto installing, with Win 10 20H2 I think. I looked into uninstalling, but it's unclear if you can. And I'd be worried about doing so breaking Win in a worse way, than just midget icons.
I just installed Office 2016 home and student and disgusted with what I see. Anyway to fix the duplicate entries in the start menu? How do I make the icons normal size in the control panel?
Please let me know if there is anything I can do about this mess. Otherwise, I will uninstall Office 2016. Unacceptable!

I figured out the issue thanks to Bastet. You have to remove the forced office apps from edge.
Type edge://apps on the edge web browser and just remove the apps. After that the problem is solved.
