Boot is stuck on "Repairing Disk Errors"

Sorry if this is the wrong subforum.., it wasn't obvious to me that any of the others were more appropriate

in another thread i referred to a laptop that will not boot - but here, i am hoping i can find a way to get it to boot without reformatting the SSD and reinstalling the OS.

The laptop is a Dell Latitude E7470 i7 running Windows 10 Pro - just out of warranty...

The history of the problem is this:

some time ago, i started it up and got a "no bootable media" message. without trying anything else, i unplugged the SSD and plugged it back in. the machine booted fine, and has run fine for the last 10 months or so.

then, a few days ago, i got the same error message: no bootable media, but that fix did not work this time.

then, i started getting a different error message - something about looking to boot over a network.

The SSD is fine - i can read it with a USB adapter on another computer.

next, after googling a bit.., i got into the bios and switched the boot mode from Legacy to UEFI

now, when i restart, i go into basically an endless "repairing disk errors" loop.

i can get to the restore from backup option, but it says i don't have any backups.

Is there anything I can do to get this working again?

    Thanks

You can't just switch from legacy BIOS (CSM) to UEFI booting without reworking the System Partition on the drive. That would be the first problem. Post a screenshot of disk management showing the SSD drive and I can tell you what to do to make it UEFI bootable.

    1) Find a flash drive that you can format (> or = 8 GB).

    2) On a working computer create a bootable Windows 10 iso 1909:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10
    Download Windows 10 ISO File
Create Bootable USB Flash Drive to Install Windows 10

    3) Insert the bootable windows 10 iso into any USB port.

    4) Power on the computer and repetitively click the applicable F key:

List of PC brands with their corresponding hot-keys

    5) Select external USB hard drive

    6) It may take 5 -10 minutes for the iso to load while viewing the Windows icon

    7) Choose language, time, currency, and keyboard or click next

    8) Do not click install

    9) In the left lower corner click repair your computer

    10) Click troubleshoot

    11) Click command prompt > Administrator: X:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe > X:\Sources:>

    12) For all of these steps please use a camera or smart phone camera to post images of the commands and the results into the thread. These images with the command and the result will provide information that may be useful

    13) type: diskpart

    14) type: lis dis

    15) type: lis vol

    16) type: sel dis 0

    17) type: lis par

    18) type: exit

    19) type: bcdedit /enum

    20) type: bcdedit | find "osdevice"

    21) type: chkdsk /f /r M: (change the drive letter M to the partition drive letter from the osdevice command)

This may take time to complete. If the command is able to proceed it typically will display an estimated time.

    22) reboot as necessary
