    Black Screen Issues

Since I updated my computer to Windows 10 I have been suffering from a mayor issue, that is every certain amount of time my computer screen will go totally black (like if it went to sleep mode) and computer will be completely unresponsive. I tried everything: formatted, updated drivers, tested every component, uninstalled all the software...I was still having the issue.

After a while being desparate I found this thread where it says that x79 platform with windows ten suffer from this, and that the solution is to turn off virtualization in BIOS (VTd) and not to use Corsair Link. After doing so, I thought I had found the solution, but sadly, is still happens sometimes. After changing my motherboards battery, and making really sure that the BIOS settings where the same, the problem is still hapenning every now and then, and I don't know what else to do...

Has anyone encountered this situation or know what else I could try?
The computer is a Asus Rampage IV Black edition (X79), Intel 4930k, 32 gb Corsair dominator Platinum 2133, Corsair AXi 1200, 2x Asus GTX980, Samsung 840 Pro.

    Thanx

That is a long thread. Some wag's.

After you clean install does machine run for a period of time okay?

Saw in thread where they shut off driver updates. Need to do it in two places, Windows and Geforce experience. In windows option 4 of this tutorial.

Enable or Disable Driver Updates in Windows Update in Windows 10

Might I ask what version of Windows 10 are you on. That thread talks about 1511 and 1607 which is obviously really old. Would h like to think that issue was dealt with but also wouldn't be surprised if it hadn't.

Is your MB BIOS up to date?

    Does reliability history show anything?

Is there any pattern at all to the error, happens during regular use, in games, any old time.

Are you overclocking, does this happen if you are overclocking.

While you are not using Corsair Link are devices still connected to USB. Maybe some have to be.

So many variables. I wonder if driver verify would drive out the issue?

Use with caution, heed the warnings.

Freezing is often caused by graphics card or driver or both.As suggested by Caledon Ken,your Reliability History should show the initial problem.
If it is a TDR[timeout detection and response] error, then a full driver uninstall may be helpful.First note your driver version,---device manager>display adapter>properties,------then image and or clone your system.Go to your card's site and download the latest or relevant driver then use Display Driver Uninstaller[DDU] in SAFE MODE to clean out the driver, before re-installing.
A quick check of your DirectX might show something,in the lower left search bar, type in ---dxdiag----and go through each page.

Another simple test that you could try to see if the issue is a video driver related problem is to simply disable the display adapter in device manager and reboot. That will force the system to use the standard Windows display driver.

That is no by no means a permanent solution, just a quick and dirty test.

I just ran into a problem myself with a really old machine based on an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU. Worked fine until Windows 1903. Now, when I remote desktop to it I get a black screen, but when connected to a monitor it's fine. Disable the intel driver and use the standard Microsoft driver and it works great via remote desktop. Go figure.

Does this occur during active times or idle times?
If idle times check your power settings as well as your screensaver settings.(even if you don't use screensavers)
