    Deletion technique on Windows 10

    Hello!

I'm doing research on the removal technique in Windows 10, which is examining how shift + delete and format works. what is done by shift + delete and format so that data can be deleted.

I am very grateful if anyone gives me help in either references, source code or whatever.

    Thanks,
    Azhar

On using this method of deletion, the files that are deleted cannot be restored as they do not get stored in the recycle bin and they bypass it.

it can actually be recovered and I've proven it using recovery software. but the problem here is how the two methods work, what the OS does when we use shift delete and format.

Yes using recovery software can restore deleted files what i'm talking about not able to restore it using recycle bin.

Neither will delete the actual data in the drives sectors, just remove the file's entry from the ntfs table in the case of delete, or replace the ntfs table itself with an empty one in the case of the default quick format.

If you are concerned about security, then you'll need to use a 3rd-party data wipe or the Diskpart's CLEAN ALL command. CCleaner, for example, can also wipe the data.

NB: if this is an SSD then overwriting every sector like this can reduce it's life.

... CLEAN ALL is not recommended for a SSD as data is continuously remapped across the SSD Drives surface and a cleaning algorithm like this doesn’t work correctly and may reduce the SSDs lifecycle.

There's information on sanitising SSDs here, from Kingston.
