My wife uses my 13" Dell Latitude and a wireless mouse, the Fn + another F key works to turn the Touchpad off. The same was necessary for her previous Toshiba Notebook. None of my Notebooks, 4 that I've rehabbed instead of junked, have the auto-insert feature. My other Notebooks use Bluetooth mice.

As to the rehabbed Notebooks, they have been given to me for any parts I can use. If I can get them fixed I usually give them away when needed, last summer sent 4 to Honduras with a mission trip through the church and half a dozen around our small town over last 20 years.

Consider making free or pay backup images and saving the images to another disk drive or the cloud.

(Acronis, Aoemi, EaseUS, Macrium, Paragon, etc.)

Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect

i have karans backup for my photos downloads and docs and for the most part i never have had that issue. i just mrest up 4 laptops that are win11 ready for when i have to switch and not one had this issue, but then i got that hp 15-da0xxx and for some reason that had the issue. but i'm thinking that last download you sent for option 5 and i just used the off link and then it showed in the classic menu.
thanks for that help now the wife can use the keyboard and not have it moving the curser around if her thumbs hit the pad. it does that for me and i hate it.

If you mean the precision touchpad settings I mentioned how I got them to appear. I guess you didn't try that.

You have multiple possible solutions above- at least 1 should work for you. You just have to work thru logically and carefully, and remember to consult the Tutorials section here.

This is relatively easy for most PCs but some seem to have fewer options, and these differ. There are many touchpad types and different drivers. Options vary. Here are two I referred to on this old laptop: sensitivity and palm check.

Your driver will look different and offer different options.

thanks i did try it and that menu does not show up. in fact the drivers are not even for the mouse and it has the same driver for the mouse and touchpad.

however it is now working it still does not show those options in the settings touchpad or the mouse so it must be driven from the bios.

anyway it is working when the mouse is plugged in the pad turns off and works when i take the mouse out. thanks tons for the help

For others reading this please note that it helps to mention any customization or third-party software such as Classic Shell or StartIsBack, StartAllBack, etc. early in the post as those things can affect any solutions or may be the problem.

Just for completeness.. with respect to the precision mouse driver, you're correct that the driver wasn't appropriate for my particular mouse, as it wasn't for yours. But as I said, installing it and uninstalling it left me with the options I wanted in Settings.
    Obscure, but there we are.

thansk like i said i found the setting i was after locaked in the classic menue. now the touchpad turns off with a mouse installed and turns on when the mouse is removed. i do not know why the option showed up there but it now works thanks everyone for the ideas.
the option 5 was the option that helped after i did a complete reinstall of the OS. i have got pc from ebay before with OS on them and most always i had to just wipe it and redo it. but i always give them a try first. thansk
