Since I always get good information here, old Asus mobo, pciex usb 3.0
I have an old PC I build on an Asus B85M-E R 2.0 motherboard. I know it's old, but it works great for me. I've got Windows 10 Pro, version 22H2, build 19045.3324 running on it, set now for automatic updates.
I'd like to add a controller to give it USB-C capacity, preferably 10 Gbps.
The Asus B85M-E R 2.0 mobo has two PCIEX16 slots. I'm using the first one for a Radeon RX 590 Fatboy video card. Is it possible to install a PCI-Express USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) Type C Expansion card with an Asmedia chipset on the mobo's second PCIEX16 slot?
I already tried one expansion card, but it won't find the device to which I want to connect. The device requires 10 Gbps USB-C with an Asmedia chipset. The device manufacturer mentions that the expansion USB controller should use its own manufacturer's driver and not the generic Microsoft driver.
The USB Root hub controller card's mfr does supply a link to their own driver, but recommends using the Microsoft generic driver. Neither the generic one or their own driver worked, so I'm searching for maybe another USB controller manufacturer.
I'd like to not have to build another new computer. Newer motherboards generally now have built in USB-C ports. If I definitely have to, I'll build another, but I'd like to keep my investment down. I'm not looking for a super gaming computer. Can anyone help me with this? Maybe someone who knows Asus motherboards well. If I'm travelling down a useless path, maybe recommend a decent motherboard reasonably priced on which I can build a PC with the data transfer speed capacity I need.
