Well the drive hang came back after a couple of days. CHKDSK, SFC, DISM, and Chrystal Disk Info didn't show anything new, so I uninstalled all of the February Patch Tuesday updates. While that was going on, MS installed the 03/05 updates even though I have WU paused until April. After this exercise, the disk hogging seems to have become a thing of the past. FireFox, Norton360, and ntoskml.exe no longer drive the C drive to 100% and keep it there even if they aren't using CPU cycles. Applications now load with the speed they used to and the HDD usage no longer stays at 100% for hours at a time.
