how to reconnect com ports to a laptop?

    how to reconnect com ports to a laptop?


    I need to connect to a com port. No ports show up in the device manager, however, if I click on 'show hidden devices" com3 & com4 appear but are grayed out. Right clicking on them shows a screen opens saying they have to be reconnected to the computer to use them. How do you do that?

    Since the 9-pin and 25-ping Comm/Serial ports have not been included on Notebooks for quite some time, and many Desktops, it usually boils down to device and its driver installs to create them like printers and USB connections.
