    Error Device media is write-protected

Plugged a Kingston Data Traveler 3.0 USB Device into an HP Elitebook 8440p running Windows 10 Pro 20H2.
Download sp73930.exe; launched the apt, select the option make a bootable USB
Received message Error: Device media is wright-protected.

I did not setup wright protection. What caused the USB drive to become wright-protected?

    How can shut-off wright protection?

that can be the sign of a failing usb flash pen
You do not say which Data Traveler other than 3.0,
USB Flash Drives for personal use and encrypted data – Kingston Technology
but whichever it is try this
    with the usb connected
    cmd prompt with admin rights

    type
    diskpart

when that gives you the diskpart prompt type

    list disk

look for the flash pen and type

select diskand the number shown on the left hand column of the listed disks
    eg . select disk 5

    it will respond
disk 5 is the selected disk

    type
    detail disk
it can actually be typed as just det disk

it will then respond and show details for the drive amongst which will be if it is read only.

    If it is type

    attributes disk clear readonly

Further to the above if diskpart shows it as read only - which is the same as windows showing it write protected
and the cmd to clear the read only attribute fails
see this for further information as to solution.

Once Write Protect was turned off I was able to use the flash drive. I used the flash drive to upgrade the BIOS. When running the OBS program I discovered it was not performing properly.. The malfunction was traced to Error 501 - the BIOS needed to be upgraded.

Thank you for helping me. I have a love/hate relationship with using technology, I love it when it works. I have been attending an online concert series and would like to discuss the music with several friends. I used the YouTube Downloader to download 3 concerts in a 4 part series. These are MP4 files that play for about 1 hour each. I am learning to use the the Photo application, Voice Recorder and Open Broadcasters Software to prepare an online presentation that shows the singers performing on the main screen with a little window in which I appear asking questions and making comments. I have a feeling my friends will love it. Thanks for your help.

Never been to Connecticut, but went to a good Jazz performance in New Orleans - been there three times, but only on two day visits.

I live midway between Boston and New York near the shore I am surrounded by places with live entertainment, like the Salt Marsh Opera, Musical Master Works, the Side Door Jazz club and Goodspeed Opera House. I like to sit-up-front so I can see the intensity of the performers. When the pandemic is over come to Connecticut.

    Pedantic amelioration.

    "Merriam-Webster

    "Wright
": a worker skilled in the manufacture especially of wooden objects —usually used in combination"

Thus,, you apparently have someone in your computer making things such as a wheel wight might have done in the past..

I submit that you are probably asking about "write protection", not ensuring safety against a skilled intruder.
