    My book unallocated

I have a My Book external drive with an unallocated partition. Cannot see the drive in explorer. It had no letter assigned to it now. I ran EaseUS Partition recovery with no luck. Any ideas how to recover the partition? PC is Windows 10.

    Partitions Screenshot

Please post [ upload ] a screenshot of your partitions using Minitool Partition Wizard for example [ NOT Disk Management ]. Please make sure that all the text in all the columns are visible and showing the whole window . . .

What is the capacity of your My Book? And how many partitions in it ?

Alongwith the screenshot of Partition Wizard, post a screenshot of Windows Disk Management too. No harm. ( I would always ask for both screenshots)

In posting the Disk management screenshot, note the guidance in

so you get all the relevant parts shown clearly enough.

Are you saying that this drive used to contain data but has gone wrong? In this case, I suggest following jumanji's guidance.

Or might it never have had a partition on it before?

Yes, it was used by a friend to store documents. I see what jumanji has to say. Thank you for your help.

Why do you want to recover data from your friend's HDD? As Try3 said do you know that there was data and that needs to be recovered?
Let us first ascertain whether there is data at all. Download and install the free trial version of GetDataBackPro from Data Recovery Software Products - Runtime Software Products. Plug in only your WD external drive and then run the scan. Does it show your files and folders?
My Demo run on a disk that shows as Unallocated:

    GetDataBack Run:

OK that is only to check data is there. If that is confirmed you can use Partition Recovery Wizard in MiniTool Partition Wizard Free v 9.1 to recover the partition hopefully. ( hmmm... in Data recovery nothing is certain). In this demo I recovered the partition.

You can download PW 9.1 from Download MiniTool Partition Wizard Free Edition 9.1 for windows - Filepuma.com
Launch it, click on the Partition Recovery Wizard in the left pane > Next > select your WD external to scan > Next > Full Disk > Next > Quick Scan > Next. At the end of the quick scan you will see a window with the partitions found.

When you reach this screen, it will be better you post a screenshot and wait for my approval since things may not be the same as shown in the above screenshot. If previously there were multiple partitions and multiple partitions are shown, you have to choose the correct partitons that will show the drive as it existed before in the preview map. ( After posting the screenshot You can cancel and close PW. You may run it again after my instructions. ( And you didn't answer my question on how many partitions were there in that disk. May be you did not know)
