    Crucial Storage Executive

    Hi

    I have a new system I designed myself. Windows 10, 2004.
I been using Crucials Storage Executive since I got a Crucial M.2 SSD.

Today the software said upgrade availible to 6.06, and a button to upgrade. (I have 6.05)
The upgrade inside the software did ran its thing and reboot.

Still 6.05 when I ran the software again.
    So,
I uninstalled using RevuUninstaller and cleaned traces.
I downloaded the latest version from Crucials homepage:
Crucial Storage Executive Tool | Firmware Download | Crucial.com

The zip file only contains 6.05. And the 6.06 got released in june? (date from crucial.com)

    Anyone else had this issue?

But maybe more importantly, do I need this software? I used it to update firmware and test Momentum Cache. And just like other posts here about the software, no more speed on M.2 SSD is needed.

I did not notice any difference in speed from a Civ 6 Benchmark, after I removed the software.
Anyone who could enlighten me about this software, please?

Well, this is interesting. I am having ALMOST the same problem that you are having, but ever so slightly worse.

When I download Storage Executive from Crucial, it installs 6.04 for me (not 6.05 or 6.06). The first time I launch it it tells me that I am running 6.04 and tells me that an update to 6.06 is available. I tell it to go ahead and install the update. It downloads the update and then says that I am already running 6.04, meaning that what it downloaded was clearly only 6.04.

Bottom line is that I am having the same issue that you are, except that the version that it is downloading for me is just slightly older than yours.

I guess that a quick inquiry to Crucial might be in order.

EDIT: I don't usually deal with the software from Crucial, Seagate, etc. I like to check for a firmware update maybe twice a year, but that's the extent of it. Maybe if I had a brand new model drive that might have some potential FW fixes near the start of that model's existence, I might be tempted to install it for a little while so that it can inform me of any updates, but after I while I tend to dump it. That's just personal preference.

No, you don't need the software.

I tried it maybe 5 years ago when I first bought a Crucial SSD. It was problematic then and the Crucial forum had a lot of posts about trouble.

All you really need to do is let Windows take care of the SSD.

Maybe Crucial has updated this -- because I got the same results a while back, but when I downloaded it today and checked the version number, it does say 6.06.062020.05.

I have not installed this yet because the Crucial SSD is on another PC.

Mark, you are correct. I just tried it again and I now get 6.06 as well.
