computer failed to boot - disk error event id 153 + 98

    Hello,

I'm experiencing some issues with one of my drives.. not sure which.

I get the event viewer id 153 error along with event id 98

I will provide screenshots of the errors to hopefully support getting help with this problem.

I've tried replacing my PSU as this was the culprit to my previous issues with windows failing to boot and this solved my problem for awhile.. now it's back.

I've also tried switching ports and sata cables in hopes this would solve the problem along with CHKDSK and S.M.A.R.T. test.. all comes back clean and good health

Hi, suggest you try Hard Disk Sentinel (trial) - gives a great quick analysis (SSDs too).

    Please post the results.

    Event ID 153:
This event may be an indication that the specified drive may be failing soon. This is especially true if the event is recorded regularly. The first step is to run the maintenance utilities related to hard drives, starting with CHKDSK and the utilities available from the manufacturer for that specific brand.

    Event ID 98:

I checked the analyst with HD sentinel. everything seemed fine except one of my regular HDD has a problem with communication aka communication error..

if you need anything else.. I'll post more screenshots of my other HDD/SSD health.. comes up clean so far.
added smart test screenshot of the HDD in question

Hopefully that's highlighted roughly where the problem is- and eliminated a lot of others.

Probably leaves swapping and substitution where that's possible as you know. Can't suggest more but I'm sure others may help.

Thanks for the suggestions.. I'm considering swapping out the cables for the specific HDD and hopefully that'll solve the problem.. I'm open for other suggestions as well if anyone else has anymore ideas.

    1) Open disk management > widen two columns: Status and Volume > view each row and make sure that the charcters in each row are in full view and that there are no letters that are cut off > post an image into the thread

    2) Run the BETA log collector and post a zip into this thread.

Great- you're lucky it wasn't some interface hardware or sthg on the disk unit itself.

HD Sentinel is a good prog- given away from time to time. It's worth having sthg monitoring for early failures that can generate an alert, esp. if you have a number of drives.

And disk imaging helps- used routinely, as many here strongly recommend, the act of creating a disk image checks for CRC errors on at least the used part of imaged partitions and disks.
