Can't change taskbar and accent colors

    Hi my name is John,

I worked as a software developer for 30 years, programming IBM Mainframes as well as PC's. I am currently retired, my question regarding Windows 10 Pro 64-Bit Settings is why in

    Windows 10 Pro 64-BitVersion 20H2Installed on ‎12/‎4/‎2020OS build 19042.630Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.31.0

I can no longer access either the color option for changing taskbar and accent colors, as well as the mouse option which allows you to change the mouse cursor size and color.

I have been working with Windows since 3.0 back in 1989, and have never run into this problem before.

    Hello John,

If you selected to use Light instead of Custom or Dark for Choose your color or Light instead of Dark for Choose your default Windows mode, then the Start, taskbar, and action center setting will be grayed out.

You can double check to see if you may be able to use an option in the tutorial below to change the mouse pointer color and size.

Thanks for the suggestions, my problem is that these setting options no longer appear in the systems settings area. I did a reinstall of 20H2 this morning hoping to get them back without success.

The only way I can currently change either the taskbar color or the mouse pointer is to use the old control panel options, which are limited at best.

Is your Windows 10 currently activated? If not, personalization settings will be disabled until it is.

Please go ahead and post some screenshots showing your Settings page with the missing setting for these to see if anything may stand out.

    Hi Brink,

The other personalization settings, such as background and themes and the basic display options work just fine.

I started with a purchased version of Windows 10 Pro 64-bit in 2014 rather than the free update version. I have been applying all the system updates since 2014 without any issues other than having my customizations being reset.

The color and mouse options appear when I do a search of the settings options, however , when I click on them I return to the main settings menu. I was hoping the reinstall that I did this morning would reset those options. Again however, it did not. I really do not want to do a clean install unless I really need to, to regain these settings.

    John,

We you say reinstall, was that a repair install of Windows 10?

No, I used MediaCreationTool20H2.exe to download a complete version of Windows 10 Pro and did the install version that retains my applications, mainly because I did a complete new install back in May of 2020.

I'm surprised the reinstall didn't fix Settings for you.

You could try resetting the Settings app using an available option in the tutorial below to see if it may fix it.

    Hi Brink,
I tried using the Windows PowerShell method and these were the results.

PS C:\Users\SJKC> Get-AppxPackage *windows.immersivecontrolpanel* | Reset-AppxPackageReset-AppxPackage : The term 'Reset-AppxPackage' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable program. Check the spelling of the name, or if a path was included, verify that the path is correct and try again. At line:1 char:51+ Get-AppxPackage *windows.immersivecontrolpanel* | Reset-AppxPackage+ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ + CategoryInfo : ObjectNotFound: (Reset-AppxPackage: String) [], CommandNotFoundException + FullyQualifiedErrorId : CommandNotFoundException I then tried using the more option on the settings icon on the start menu, without success.
