    Random Restarts

    Win10 Restarts Randomly
It happens randomly several times a month, on previous windows 7 ones a month. It happens when I am browsing or at an idle – black screen and restart. No dump files. It happens at the welcome screen also before windows to load all drivers.
    Performed
    sfc /scannow
    dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth
    chkdsk /scan
    no errors found
    No virus

Unchecked the PC to restart in order to generate a crash report but not working. Keeps restarting without reports.
Reinstalled the video driver with a special tool (AMD cleanup utility) and installed it using another tool (auto-detect utility) - no change.

    Hardware:
    Motherboard A88X-G45 - 2015
    CPU: AMD A10-5800K - 2015
    Video AMD Radeon HD 5770 - 2015
    Monitor Acer -2015
    HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB - 2020
    PSU: Thermaltake 700W -2020

    Tested RAM – no issue.
Run OCCT load test – no issue.
Removed video card AMD Radeon HD 5770, and now using the embedded HD 7660D in CPU.
    Replaced the PSU whit new.
    HDD was replaced.

The only information I have is from Event Monitor:
Event IDs: Error 6008 (none), Critical 41 (63), Warning 10016.

Noted you are using a version of build 2004, and you had problems when running Win 7.

Hi, first try to eliminate the possibility of a hardware problem. Boot from a live boot disk, ideally of similar build, wait for 'long enough' and see if any restarts occur. E.g. Kyhi's or Bob Omb's (Google).

Are you overclocking? Is your RAM compatible with your MOBO and ram sticks identical?

Run RAM checks and disk checks. E.g. Hard Disk Sentinel (trial) - best report incl. SSDs

    Consider possible PSU problems.
    Check not overheating.

Back up first - hopefully you are already using disk imaging routinely- so, so often recommended here- e.g. Macrium Reflect (free/paid) + external storage for image files.

Try elimination. Start with a clean boot.
Then disable further non-MS items using Autoruns from MS.
If you can reach a state where the restarts are not occurring, you may have a chance of identifying a cause.

    Rund stress tests e.g. Prime95.

    Hi dalchina,

Boot from a live boot disk, ideally of similar build, wait for 'long enough' and see if any restarts occur. E.g. Kyhi's or Bob Omb's (Google).
I cannot run any test "long enough" because the restarts can happen from 2h to 20 days apart. I don't know what "Kyhi's or Bob Omb's" is

    Are you overclocking? No
Is your RAM compatible with your MOBO and ram sticks identical? I don't know what that is.

Run RAM checks and disk checks. E.g. Hard Disk Sentinel (trial) - best report incl. SSDs both were done and passed.
    Consider possible PSU problems. replaced
    Check not overheating. checked

Back up first - hopefully you are already using disk imaging routinely- so, so often recommended here- e.g. Macrium Reflect (free/paid) + external storage for image files.

Try elimination. Start with a clean boot.
Then disable further non-MS items using Autoruns from MS. Do you mean Startup?
If you can reach a state where the restarts are not occurring, you may have a chance of identifying a cause.

Rund stress tests e.g. Prime95. already ran OCCT multiple times

    Thank you for replying.

I don't think you understand what a live boot disk is.
A live boot disk lets you boot from something totally independent of the O/S installed on your PC.

If your PC crashes when booting independently of the disks in your PC from a known stable installation, that leaves the problem as hardware. If so, there's no point trying to fix your installed O/S.

You don't know what Kyhi's live boot disk is, or Bob Omb's.
Fine. I told you to use Google.

You haven't so I will do that for you.

    Search string:
    Kyhi's live boot disk

URL: (ignore the strange text name).
    You are being redirected...

Go there, follow the yellow brick road and download the iso file.
Use that to create a bootable disk.
Configure your PC to boot from that.
    Boot your PC from it.
See if your PC is stable- or not.

If you prefer to use Bob Omb's:

    search string
    Bob Omb's live boot disk
    URL:
    Bob.Omb's Modified Win10PEx64 - Best Rescue Disk 2018

    Do likewise.

Google helps you find out about things you don't know about. If you look back at my post you had enough information to do that.

I suggest you try the POSSIBLE simple answer first
Uninstall BitDefender and use the included Windows Defender.
Presuming you have the necessary details to reinstall BitDefender that will NOT cuase you a problem
There are and have been for sometime reports of BitDefender causing restarts on 10 and IF you had BitDefender on 7, there were also reports of it occuring on 7.
The difference in frequency may just be the change in update frequency on 10 and indeed on BitDefender

Some prople are reporting a restart every time they shutdown.

    Macboatmaster,
thank you for the suggestion but I didn't have BitDefender before. The issues started 4 years ago on win7, It happened once a month or two. At that time I found many people had issues with the video driver for this video card ATI Radeon HD 5770. Changed the version, reinstalled - nothing fixes that. Now with win 10, the issue becomes more frequent and annoying. Now being with the embedded GPU (the driver is the same) I guess it should not be a problem.

Are you or are you note getting Bluescreen errors and restarts?

Turn of automatic restart so if a Bluescreen does occur it will stay there until you reboot.

You can turn off automatic restart so you can read information when you get a BSOD screen:

    Right click on This PC.
Click Properties > Advanced System Settings
Under Startup and Recovery click on Settings.
Under System failure, uncheck Automatically restart.

If you get a BSOD, take a picture of it with your cell phone and post here in your thread.

Meanwhile, follow the instructions at the top of your thread:

Please read the instructions here: Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions

I still recommend you uninstall BitDefender.
Clearly it was not the cause of the occasional problem you mnetioned when you had 7
However that does not mean that it is not responsible for many of your problems on 10.

If it proves I am wrong you can simply reinstall it.

    Ztruker,

there is no Bluescreen. As I said earlier, it is black screen or somethimes distortion in the picture on the screen before the black screen, followed by a restart. Months ago I disabled the automatic restart but it still restarts automatically.
