Hardware Live Kernel event causing windows 10 version 1909 to crash

    Hi,

My PC crashes with one screen going black and the second one freezing with whatever I have open at the time, nothing can be done but everything seems normal once turned on and off by long pressing power button. PC boots in safe mode and brings my to bios. This has happened multiple times before and seemingly for no reason.
    Report from reliability says:

    Description:
A problem with your hardware caused Windows to stop working correctly.

    Problem signature
    Problem Event Name: LiveKernelEvent
    Code: 3000040
    Parameter 1: 2
    Parameter 2: ffff80047eb67520
    Parameter 3: 1b0
    Parameter 4: 0
    OS version: 10_0_18363
    Service Pack: 0_0
    Product: 768_1
    OS Version: 10.0.18363.2.0.0.768.101
    Locale ID: 2057

I have tried looking for a fix, but simply cannot find anything. It happens infrequently but is concerning.

    Many thanks,

    Bill

Hi Billsquilliums. Welcome to the TenForums @Billsqilliums

Check BIOS levels against your vendor website, are you current. Not saying to update but understand are patches available.

    Check disk C: chkdsk c: /scan

    check other drives if installed.

Would also get smart data from drives.

Please install Crystal Disk Info Standard edition

    CrystalDiskInfo – Crystal Dew World

Once installed click on "Function" tab > Advance Feature > Raw Values > 10[Dec]

This presents error values in decimal amounts.

What is the overall health status of boot disk? Are any of the categories showing a warning? Are you getting seek, write or read errors?

Are you overclocking, if so stop and test.

    Test memory

    MemTest86+ - Test RAM

Do you note anything with your electricity, in other words are you connected to a circuit that is also shared by a large load, electric heater, AC. Where I live I know my voltage drops below 120v as I can hear my UPS's kicking.

Are you running a video card, is the driver up to date?

Is there any pattern at all when this happens, after long use, after gaming, after awakening from sleep.

Given it is taking you to BIOS what if anything do you have to do in BIOS to reset? Is the right date and time showing in BIOS. Is it asking you to confirm memory? If CMOS battery five years old I would be looking at replacing. Don't think it would be cause of crash but interesting that it is showing BIOS after crash.

I might also ensure everything is seated correctly by removing and installing.

Should have asked, when did this start? Can you associate any changes the system or you made.

    Ken

Hi both, thanks you your responses sorry it took so long to get back to you.

I checked the disk and no issues were reported.

I got the following from Crystal Disk Info, honestly I'm not sure if it shows an issue or not, I will attach the image. But in general It's not showing any warning or errors as far as I can tell.

    Attachment 272786

    To answer your other questions:

    I am not overclocking
I used Memtest and got no errors after 8 passes.
As far as my electricity i'm not sure but it dose not share the outlet with anything else.
My gpu drivers are up to date, there doesn't seem to be any pattern or reason to when it happens I can be in the middle of a game or just browsing the internet though the one thing may be that it happens if I haven't turned my pc off in some time - as in I put it in sleep mode rather than turning it off for a week - but that isn't definite just something i noticed.
With the BIOS, I don't have to do anything it says press F2 to boot to bios after crash then I can just exit to restart and continue as normal - no idea why it does this.
Finally, I have not made any hardware changes since I built the pc and cannot think of any other obvious changes that resulted in this happening, sorry to not be much help in this.

I have not yet tried removing and installing all components yet, would you suggests this as my next move? Also I will attach the zip file of the logs from the V2 log collector.

    Thanks again for your help.

How about your BIOS level? Is it current or at least at the latest level. Not saying to update but have a checked?

When it takes you into BIOS is your date and time correct? I know you said you just exit but are these values correct.

Have you opened box and snooped around. All clean, all fans working.

Interesting observation by you, that it occurs based on length of time On.

It can be easy to miss BSOD using the Windows default settings.
The computer has been having BSOD.

The BIOS is out of date (approximately 20 missed upgrades).

All of the dump files were corrupt.

Msinfo32 was missing in the V2 log collector.

    Please perform the following steps:

    1) Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:
    2) sfc /scannow
    3) dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth
    4) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    5) sfc /scannow
    6) chkdsk /scan
    7) wmic recoveros set autoreboot = false
    8) wmic recoveros set DebugInfoType = 7
    9) wmic recoveros get autoreboot
    10) wmic recoveros get DebugInfoType
    11) bcdedit /enum {badmemory}

    12) When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread

    13) Make sure that there is no over clocking while troubleshooting

    14) Sometimes there are problems in the bios that produce BSOD

    The BIOS: 0420

    15) Backup the computer files to another drive or to the cloud

    16) Make a backup image using Macrium:
Macrium Software | Macrium Reflect Free:
Macrium Software | Macrium Reflect Free
Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect

    17) Create a brand new restore point.
Create System Restore Point in Windows 10

    18) Upgrade the BIOS: 0420 > 2401

    1) Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:
    chkdsk /r /v
This may take hours to run so plan to run overnight.
Run on all drives using the syntax: chkdsk /r /v C: or chkdsk /r /v D: changing the drive letter to the applicable drive.

    C:\Windows\system32>chkdsk /r /v
The type of the file system is NTFS.
    Cannot lock current drive.

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be
checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)

    Type: Y
    reboot

    2) Use the information in this link to find the chkdsk report in the event viewer. Copy and paste into notepad > save to desktop > post into the thread using one drive or drop box share link:
Read Chkdsk Log in Event Viewer in Windows 10 Windows 10 Performance Maintenance Tutorials
Read Chkdsk Log in Event Viewer in Windows 10

    3) For larger size drives the chkdsk switches can take substantial time.
Plan to run a substantial portion overnight for each drive.
