2 day old laptop - BSOD
Hi,
I'm now at my wits end and hoping someone can help. I am not tech savvy so apologies for the dumb wording and descriptions.
Background:
I work for a small Not for profit and we purchased a new HP laptop in the new year. About 4 months in, I was continuously getting a BSOD with the stopcode - Driver IRQL not less or equal. What failed: ipeaklwf.sys.. I liaised with HP support as the laptop wasn't even 6 months old yet and after weeks of trouble shooting where the BSOD was crashing the laptop every 3-5 mins, it was becoming unworkable and HP couldn't fix it so in the end replaced it with a new HP Elitebook x360 1020 G2.
I received the new laptop and on the second day I was working from home and got exactly the same BSOD and error message as I was getting on the first laptop. Our IT support is remotely located and he can't figure out what is happening other than to tell me that it must be environmental. The problem with that theory is that my first HP would BSOD both at work and at home - two completely different environments. With regard to the new laptop, he was sent a crash report in the morning on the second day (I wasn't fully using it at that time and hadn't noticed it) and then it BSOD again that night whilst I was at home. Again, two different environments.
My question is - has anyone ever had this happen to a brand new laptop. It's still only a week and a half since I received it. It's worth noting that my colleague has EXACTLY the same laptop, purchased at the same time so it's new too and she's not had this issue.
Also, would the Internet or wifi connection either at my work or home make it do that. I've been working on the laptop for 6 hours this evening, mostly in excel and when I finished my work, I went onto the internet and it crashed (yet it's not crashing whilst I type this???. If the wifi could make it BSOD, what is the approach to fix it. Not sure if it means anything but the cooling fan in the laptop has been on for most of that time.
I just have no idea where to go from here - I can't bear the thought of having to trouble shoot the same issue again, especially on a brand new device, so I appreciate any of your advice or suggestions.
Thanks
Nardia
