Intermittent crashes when the screen is off [nvlddmkm.sys]

    Hello,

my desktop computer running Windows 10 with all the latest updates started crashing intermittently but regularly, i.e., about 3 to 4 times a week under daily use, this April or May (around the time the Windows Spring Creators update was released).

The crashes almost always occur when I take a break and let the screen go black. When I come back to the desk, the power button LED on the front of the PC plus the lights on the keyboards and mouse indicate that the computer is still running (hard drive LED stays off though). However, it appears frozen and can't be woken up again - at this point I have to push the reset button. Since this all happens while the screen has gone dark in line with my energy settings, I never actually see a BSOD. I can't tell if the problem coincides with the computer transitioning into standby or hibernation mode.

I used BlueScreenView to have a quick view at the dump file, and it indicates a KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED error caused by nvlddmkm.sys, hinting at a problem with my nvidia Geforce 960 graphics card. I've had this card for over 2 years and never had any issues so far. The remaining system specs are in my profile.

My zipped dump and log files can be downloaded here: Dropbox link

I appreciate any help solving this very annoying issue.

    Steve

The log files are in foreign language and can not be analyzed. Please change the system language to English and post a new log collector zip.

Apologies for the delay in responding, it took a little longer to reproduce the crash.

Here is the package with the Windows display language changed. Link to package

Please upload the zip file created by the dm_log_collector.exe program here. Also, if you would, please run the beta log collector shown at the end of the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions and upload it's zip file here too. Thanks

I have attached the package previously provided through the link:

To run the beta version, I would need to wait for another crash as the dump file has been removed by Windows. I will do that next time it occurs.

    Okay, thanks.

The log files are in a foreign (non-English) language and can not be analyzed. Please change the system language to English and post a new log collector zip.

You can put the language back to normal once done though you may have to do this multiple times if we need you to run the log collector script again in the future.

    Thanks

I don't quite unterstand. I had already switched the language before my second submission.

In Settings / Time & Language / Region & language "English (United Kingdom)" is set as Windows display language.

Does the Country or region also matter?

Files are still in Deutsch. Look at them. Open msinfo32.nfo for instance.

Check the provided directions as they have worked for others.

    Thanks.

Looked at the dump. Shows a problem with nvlddmkm.sys.
    Code:
    ffff8c89`89fbdd58 fffff80b`2222d34dUnable to load image nvlddmkm.sys, Win32 error 0n2

You have version 398.82 dated 30.07.2018. Version 399.07 dated 27.08.2018 is available from the Nvidia web site.
I suggest completely uninstalling the Nvidia display drivers using Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) from WagnardMobile here: Official Download Here. Do this in Safe Mode. Then get the 399.07 here: NVIDIA Driver Downloads

Do a custom install of only the NVidia graphics and the PhysX driver.

See if that gets rid of the problem.

I have uninstalled the old driver using DDU, in safe mode, and reinstalled only the driver + PhysX from nvidia's download page, as advised. Unfortunately the issue persists.

I have made new logs, one using the beta log collector. The display language of my Windows is set to English (UK).
