Have you looked at Sordum's latest version of Edge Blocker?
From what i have read, Edge cannot be removed...Just set Firefox as your default browser and don't open up Edge anymore...
MS Edge
is deep rooted into the OS, and it is advisable toNOT
attempt toRemove / Delete
it .
If you doNOT
wantMS Edge
to automatically open when you click links or as yourDefault Browser
, thenEdge Deflector
is excellent. You can set whateverBrowser
as yourDefault Browser
. I use it and haveGoogle Chrome
set as myDefault Browser
. . .
About EdgeDeflector:
EdgeDeflector is a small helper application that intercepts URIs that force-open web links in Microsoft Edge and redirects it to the system’s default web browser. This allows you to use Windows features like the Cortana assistant and built-in help links with the browser of your choice instead of being forced to use Microsoft Edge. With EdgeDeflector, you’re free to use Firefox, Google Chrome, or whatever your favorite web browser might be!
You’ll never see EdgeDeflector ever again after installing it. It does its thing transparently in the background and only runs when a link needs to be deflected away from Microsoft Edge.
> EdgeDeflector
I hope this helps.
My default browser is Firefox. I have never knowingly "opened" Edge. Edge just keeps appearing on my task bar. I don't use Cortana. Thank you for the suggestions: I'm going to install Edge Deflector, check out Edge Blocker, and cross my fingers..
You can unpin Edge from the taskbar of course, and Edge Deflector seems to work well. Certain features invoke Edge by default e.g. info on lock screen pictures- Edge Deflector redirects those to your default browser.
Edge Deflector
also redirects you to yourDefault Browser
when usingLinks
inSettings
andControl Panel
[ Ease of Access Centre as one example ].
What actually happens then if, for example, you click on the lock screen to find out more about the spotlight image (which would normally open Edge)?
I wonder how to bring up the lock screen.
