Recovering SSD with bad blocks?

I have an SSD boot drive that has some bad blocks. My full story is over at Loop: System Thread Exception Not Handled, Bad System Config Info where zBook recommended that I come over to this forum:

Bad me, I do not have a backup image of the troubled drive.

I have watched the Macrium cloning video.

Here is what I have tried with Macrium using of the Kyhi boot.

I tried making an image but got an immediate error.

I could not figure out where to find the log file. No tab for logs showed up.

I tried to do a file back up. This worked other than four files.


I plan on getting a new SSD drive. I will wait until I can get some further direction from you folks.

Graphics Card:
PNY Quadro K1200 Graphic Card - 4 GB GDDR5 - PCI Express 2.0 x16

Boot Drive:
Samsung 950 PRO Series 512 GB - PCIe NVMe - M.2 FF Internal SSD

There are two WDC hard drives that are 4T and 6T in size.

Sorry, I do not understand installing and the online part. Where do I install if I am in the WinPE environment? And online?

Actually, while I was waiting for a reply, I installed the latest version of Macrium Reflect home version, 30-day free. There was no advanced edit options available under Other Tasks, only Network Config..., Keyboard Layout, and Screen Resoluton. Nevertheless, I tried backing up an image of the C drive. It was cranking away as you responded. It worked!



It just reported that there were those bad sectors. I presume Macrium automatically ignored the bad ones.

I then ran a backup of the entire drive with five listed drives some even listed as "none." It worked too with the same 84 bad clusters on drive C.

As to a new SSD drive, the present one is a 512 MB one of which a little less than half of it was in use. Should I stick with this size? Is there an advantage with going with a larger one? Also with the Samsungs there are 970 EVO, EVO Plus, Pro. What's the difference?

Buy 970 EVO or EVO Plus, whichever is cheaper.

As I wait for the new SSD to arrive, I thought I'd would on better understanding what is going on or not going on.

Now when in Macrium the boot SSD shows all these drives:

What are those other drives or partitions?

We can't see your pic, but a standard Win 10 installation can create as many as 5 partitions on the drive...C and 4 more. Normally, you would include all of them in your Macrium image and restore all of them if you had a complete drive failure---although you can make an image file of only certain partitions or restore only certain partitions.

What drive did you order? I'd stay with a well known name brand---Crucial, Samsung, Western Digital, Intel, etc.

Your current SSD is less than half full, so there may not be any reason to buy a larger one. Larger drives can have slightly better performance as well as a larger TBW rating, but I wouldn't let that be the deciding factor when purchasing. Think about capacity, price, basic performance numbers, warranty, and the relationship with the seller.
