A Differential contains all changes made since the initial Full image. If you then make a second Differential it will be larger, as it will include all the same changes plus some new ones.
An Incremental contains only the changes since the last Incremental. Each subsequent Incremental can therefore be a lot smaller than making a new Differential.
To restore a Differential image you need the Full plus one Differential. To restore an Incremental you need the Full plus all the Incrementals.
One very essential difference between Incremental and Differential is that you cannot lose or delete any of the sequences in Incremental From the time of a full Backup when it doesn't bother at all to do the same (lose or delete) a sequence in Differential. That is the reason why, I always prefer the latter even though it can take more storage space. I always feel more secure this way. A matter of preference or choice...
