You need to be confident in this and to actually do a backup and restore.

ahh.....now I'm not so sure I can do this. If it doesn't work, is there any chance something can get fouled up/erased, etc?

No. Follow the steps as outlined above by all the previous posters. Backup all partitions on the C; drive...all of them. Don't worry about what is in them, or why, or where they came from. If you do not try, you will never get a backup and you will be asking all the same questions tomorrow and next week.

Have some faith in yourself and just do the instructions given and push the button............

@ImLost you can't be anymore lost than I've been. And there's still lots I won't attempt. But the TomCat's right. If you do backup and then restore for a test run, you'll learn a lot about the software and yourself. If there's a problem it should not corrupt or damage anything. After all, it's a backup of the whole system and only minutes old. It's not like anything has changed significantly in that brief interim.

And thanks for posting here. I've learned a lot by following your trail.

Long as I don't have to worry about making things worse if it doesn't come out right.

There is nothing that can 'make things worse' by making an image. You won't do anything 'bad' to your PC.

You can safely test booting from your Macrium recovery usb, if you plug in the usb wit the image you made you can safely select the image and verify it.

Just create the backup image, and you'll have confidence that if your pc gets messed up you can restore that image and be back up and running again. You have nothing to lose by making a backup image.

Even tho #6 says "finish" I still go to 7 and 8.....which is the better priority level I should use, low or high? Then 9 tells me it's done, and I don't use 10 due to previous "auto-verify"?

I always use High Priority, figuring it will finish more quickly.

If you are heavily involved in doing something else on the machine, maybe choose low.

Verification is never a guarantee you can successfully restore. When you do restore, you will see a checkbox where you can choose to verify before the restore begins. I did this just a couple of days ago while making a backup drive.

You will probably see a screen asking you about "XML" or "run this backup now". You can do either, but I always just say run it now. It should begin within seconds.

It would take maybe 5 or 10 minutes if you were backing up to a hard drive, but expect it to take a lot more since you are backing up to a USB.

Choosing XML would provide a way to make further images without going through all of these configuration screens, but I'd think you would want to go through them manually until you are confident and know what to expect.

See the button to the right of that box? the one with three dots? [...] It's the Browse button.

Click it, then browse to find your usb, select it and click OK. The path to the usb will now be put into that destination box.
