If past history is a guide, I expect that the "what" ("Malwarebytes 3") will eventually stabilize and will be a good program.
Until we see objective testing and data from the real-world, however, we will not know if it really can be both an "AV replacement" (with protection that "surpasses" traditional AVs) and a souped-up anti-malware program to run side-by-side with a real, full AV.
I hope we customers will not be forced to choose between Malwarebytes and a full security suite from another vendor.
The "when" and the "how", unprecedented as they are both for the company and for (security) software in general, are more worrisome.
Let's hope that the "why" does not turn out to be one of those three reasons.
