MBAM used to be an additional anti-malware software, but it is only a pretend AV now.
There is always a risk running any 2 (or more) anti-malware programs on one device.
But, in the case of MBAM and Defender, these compliment each other but only to the extent of their limited individual capabilities and intended functions. Nether are complete anti-malware protection (like Kaspersky is).
Was MBAM a one-off payment for a lifetime, or annual life-time renewals? If it was me. I'd forego the cost of MBAM and go with Kaspersky.
. Of course it did, and that was a reflection on Norton's limited capabilities to detect what should have been identified as an incompatible program. In that case, false positives are always a high risk.
I bought it many years ago when they offered a lifetime license for a low regular price - now I pay nothing. Maybe ten years ago they offered that deal. I have enjoyed seeing it improve over time. I have a cheap Dell computer ($420) and nothing on it is vital. It's a home computer not a work computer. If I change my mind I can reinstall and reactivate Kaspersky. I'm just very attached to MBAM because we have come a long way together.
Tairiku, we've been over this a number of times on this forum: MBAM and Defender are complementary, they run perfectly well together (with the right settings), and they both run real-time protection without any trace of "BSOD and such." Neither is crippled by the other at all.
I recently tried to install a program that Defender grabbed and quarantined before I could even run it, and when I told Defender to leave it alone, and proceeded to try to run it, Malwarebytes grabbed it and quarantined it. I like that pattern of complementary behavior by real-time protective utilities.
No problem, there are some AVs that are compatible with others, like Immunet, but I find it overkill, it is better to run a software that improves other areas, like HitmanPro (anti-exploit), Spyshelter (anti-keylogger).
If you really want to use a third party AV, then avoid the Home version of McAfee.
I would use the enterprise version called McAfee Virus Scan Enterprise. That’s more reliable.
Or, just stick with Defender and keep your system updated and run as a Standard user and basically that’s more sufficient.
