Windows defender taking up 50-60% of memory

    Hello,
I have a win 10 arcade cabinet running big box. Recently, it’s been running very slow. I went to the task manager and noticed the anti-malware executable is using 50-60% of memory resources. Cpu usage does not seem high, just ram.

I’ve googled until I can google no more, I can’t seem to find anything that anyone suggests that will work. I’ve tried random things from google results and none of it does anything.

If you could, please fill in your system specs so we know what we're dealing with. And, you say "recently"..... what has changed recently? Anything that was not there before you have the high Defender Mem usage.

A screenshot posted here of the Taskmanager as you see it would be helpful.

    Thanks,

Make sure, you have the latest version, it might be trying to update.

    • Engine Version: 1.1.17700.4
    • Platform Version: 4.18.2011.6

Find Windows Defender Antivirus Version in Windows 10

If not, download and run as admin, wait for ~5 mins and restart.

    Thanks for the reply.

The system is just an old dell optiplex 3010 with 4gm ram and a Kingston ssd.

As for what’s changed. Nothing. I set the system up with everything I wanted and it’s basically sat there. The only thing different is that launchbox/big box and windows will update every so often.

Otherwise I turn it on, bang the joysticks around for a few min with the games I like and shut it back down.

I can include a screen shot of TM but I can’t quite figure out how to put it on here.
