HP ENVY Stuck In Boot Loop Caused by Windows Update Installing Bios

I just bought a new HP ENVY 17-CG1003CA notebook with these specifications:
    Intel® Core™ i7-1165G7 (up to 4.7 GHz with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology, 12 MB L3 cache, 4 cores)
    16 GB DDR4-3200 SDRAM (2 x 8 GB)
    Intel® Iris® Plus Graphics
    Discrete NVIDIA® GeForce® MX450 (2 GB GDDR5 dedicated)
    etc.

Since it only came with a 512gb NVMe SSD I bought a Samsung 980 1TB NVMe drive and swapped it in, I did have a little driver problem but the good people over at the HP Notebook group got me going. I was able to install Windows 10 version 21h1 and as usual I ran Windows Update to install the rest of the hardware drivers and any updates since I created the boot media. The problem that I've run into is that without asking me Windows Update downloaded a Bios update and tried to automatically install it. Now when I rebooted to finish installing the updates it starts by trying to install this bios update which must be wrong for this model as I get a screen with an HP logo and "HP Bios Update" and "initializing" and it reboots almost immediately and comes back to that screen over and over again. I tried to get it to boot off of the Windows install media flash drive by getting to the boot menu but it seems to be bypassing any keys when the notebook starts up and goes right to the "HP Bios Update" screen. Is there any way to abort this Bios update as it seems to be having a problem?

https://support.hp.com/us-en/documen...244-1633733-16 try making a BIOS recovery USB -

" Turn on the original computer, and then immediately press the esc key repeatedly, about once every second, until the Startup Menu opens." - does this work right now?

Where is the bios file? Try moving or renaming it. Can you find sp133161.exe or Bios_update.exe they are about 12-13mb in size.

    Power off the computer.

Power on the computer and repetitively click F10 > view the BIOS > reset to default

Consider a clean install of Windows 10 or 11:

    Clean Install Windows 10
Clean Install Windows 11 | Windows 11 Forum

    Download Windows 10 ISO File
Download Official Windows 11 ISO file from Microsoft | Windows 11 Forum

Create Bootable USB Flash Drive to Install Windows 10

Rarely does Microsoft provide BIOS updates.
If you ever see a Microsoft BIOS update please take pictures and post images into this thread.

Perform all BIOS upgrades by using the HP website.
Enter the product or serial number > view available upgrades / updates.

Windows Update Bio install boot loop

I'm sorry, but no amount of key pressing allows me to get into the bios (as I said keystrokes seem to be ignored when it goes to boot) also the boot loop is happening faster than the amount of time it takes to press and hold the power button to power off the computer and if I could boot up from the install media I would just wipe the existing installation and start over but I can't do that. The only thing I can think of is ordering a NVMe USB adapter and taking the drive out and wiping it on another computer and then reinstalling. If there's any choice, I'd prefer not to have to do that not just for the expense but the time having to take the notebook apart again. Also there's at least one other person in the HP forums who got this unwanted bios update and is waiting for a answer to the problem. Any other idea's?

Try holding the ESC key down before you even turn on the PC and keep it held down to see if the HP Start Menu opens.

You could attach the disk to another pc and use something like voidtools everything to search for the two filenames I posted.

Have you got a link to the Hp forum question?

I do not trust Microsft Windows Update BIOS update. I trust manufacturer BIOS update.

Ok as I said, if I had seen it I would have unchecked it but it wasn't under "Optional" updates and it was automatically installed along with other regular updates that are usually installed after a first time install.

It's not a normal disk, it's an NVMe SSD and only my most recently built desktop has an NVMe slot and I'm not taking it apart to try and take out the working NVMe disk to stick this in to then boot it up from a Windows installer flash drive to try and delete the existing partition to then take it apart again to put the NVMe ssd back in the notebook; one thing goes wrong and I could mess up my main desktop computer.

I had no choice but to order a USB NVMe adapter but it'll take a couple days to get here.

This is my question on the HP forums: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebo...r/td-p/8210555
This is another person who says Windows Update installed a bios update without his permission and it messed up his computer: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebo...210512#M620792

This is another person having an issue with an HP AIO that also installed Bios update without his permission and it's stuck in a boot loop too: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebo...209666#M620761
This is another post that is exactly like mine, the guy claims he fixed it by taking out the CMOS battery and then booting but I'm not sure my model has a separate CMOS battery: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/BIOS/m-p/7909147
