    In Windows, you can set to add a watermark on the bottom right corner of the desktop that displays the currently installed Windows edition, build, and version for easy reference.

    This tutorial will show you how to add or remove the Windows build and version watermark on the desktop for your account or all users in Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10.

    Just changed PaintDesktopVersion from 0 to 1 (it is already in my Registry) but it only gives me an older version than I have (according to Version Info in Win Update dialog). Why?

    Mine also, have Build 19042 installed but shows Build 19041.

    The build number displayed in the watermark is from the BuildLab string value (REG_SZ) in the registry key below. Appears to be a bug for it not to be the current build.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion

    Got curious, went searching [actually avoiding recovering files from a WinXP computer], found there's lots of Registry entries for 19041 but this one [and probably more] shows both build numbers:
