    Win 10 PC awfully slow

My wife's PC (win 10, 22H2) is awfully slow. Every single app on the task bar takes about 10 seconds to react and then it takes another 10 to 15 seconds until it's ready to be used. I ran a defrag but it didn't make a difference. Are there any suggestions where I could start looking? She's breathing down my neck.

Does she have One Drive installed? If she doesn’t use it, then uninstall it in control panel. I’ve found it can make things lag a lot if running in the background.

Also as Samuria said - it depends on the processor and amount of ram etc. But to speed up a slow computer

    1) Uninstall one drive
    2) Go to personalisation and turn off transparency
    3) Settings - type background apps in the search box. Open background apps - turn off everything except the essentials (eg Mail and clock you can leave on). This stops all the apps running in the background - if you want to use then they just start up anyway when you open them.

Also - check how full the hard drive is - is there much space left?

My wife's PC (win 10, 22H2) is awfully slow.
History please... (so often not given)
    - when was it last not 'slow'?
    - what change occurred that might have resulted in this? (update, installation, cat walked on keyboard...)

    Resource usage.
Log in as normal. Wait 3 minutes, Then please post a screenshot of the task manager, Processes tab, showing any columns of high usage organised high to low by clicking on the appropriate column header.

    Boot to Safe Mode.
    Is the PC still 'slow'?

    Boot time
How long does it take to boot from power up to the lock screen?

And as asked, full specs please, including the disk(s). Make, model, approx age
Click My Comupters below my post for an example.
    - and the forum prompted you to give the full windows build number (why? so we don't have to keep asking). Eg. 19045.3930

The computer is +- 12 years old, correct?

Did you run the repair commands I've posted?

I would say that the HDD is dying. Please make a backup of all the personal data on it on an external drive.

Check your disk- Crystal Diskinfo, Hard Disk Sentinel.

Note: if you don't or can't give us info requested, you'll make no progress.

The PC was purchased new about 5-6 years ago.

I tried the chkdsk command but it's not running because the volume is used by another process.
There's no app running at all.

FYI. Also it's worth trying a clean boot.

Perform a Clean Boot in Windows 10 to Troubleshoot Software Conflicts

Disable third party programs from running at startup if they're not needed all the time,

Add, Delete, Enable, or Disable Startup Items in Windows 10

    Run a cleanup.

Open and Use Disk Cleanup in Windows 10

Free Up Disk Space Now with Storage Sense in Windows 10

    Check background apps.

Turn On or Off Background Apps in Windows 10

If it's still slow after that let us know and ask for more help.
