disable PXE boot on Dell E6430

Just purchased a nice used Dell laptop E6430. When it boots (initially) some text pops up (see attached photos) that looks like it's trying to boot PXE ... It fails.. and boots normally .. so, I guess I can live with it. Can I attempt to disable this PXE boot attempt (I think that's what it is) in BIOS.. or should I just live with it Thanks Windows ver 22H2

That looks exactly like how my Dell Latitude E7450 looked before I changed the boot options. Try this:

    1. Keep pressing F12 as your laptop boots... you should see a message Preparing one-time boot list (or words to that effect).

    2. When the Boot list appears, choose BIOS Setup:

    3. Under Settings > General in the left-hand pane, choose Boot Sequence and remove the tick from the Onboard NIC checkbox in the right-hand pane:
disable PXE boot on Dell E6430-latitude_boot_sequence.png
This will prevent your laptop looking for a PXE-Boot source on your network. (I also remove the tick against Diskette Drive (which saves a second or two if the BIOS doesn't have to check. I left the tick against CD/DVD/CD-RW Drive as I occasionally use a portable optical drive.).

    4. On the far side of the right-hand pane, adjust the Boot Order so Internal HDD is first in the list to save a few seconds:
disable PXE boot on Dell E6430-latitude_boot_order.png
(You can always use F9 at boot to choose whatever boot device you want if it's not Internal HDD.)

    5. Save your choices and reboot.

    Hope this helps...

It should be as simple as going into the bios and settings HD as first boot it's likely it's been set that way to install from a network

Several years ago my church was given 4 Dell Latitude E6410 Notebooks that had been removed from a network but they forgot to sign them out first and also forgot give the passwords to the BIOS. I was tasked to clear and install Win7 Pro OEM from the Dell disc I got with mine [if I recall around 2012] and then upgrade to Win10. Similar situation but similar suggestions worked for making them stand-alone back then. Mine is running Linux Mint, now up to Version 21.
