W10 SDD files not found in W11

Sorry that this probably should be posted on Windows 11 Forum. But I registered and tried there without success.

I'm a long-time Windows 10 user with all W10 computers (until now). I have purchased and have taken on my vacation a new laptop that has Windows 11 installed. Prior to leaving home I saved several hundred files to an external 500 GB SSD. Now I'm away from home and my new W11 computer recognizes the SSD but doesn't find any files!! I know that they're on the SSD because I checked prior to leaving home.

    How does W11 find files??

I'll be happy to answer questions and/or provide screen captures.

    Hello @lbeck,

     Disk Management - Partitions Screenshot

Make sure that ALL the text in ALL the columns are visible and showing the whole window. Now UPLOAD a screenshot of your partitions using one of the following methods . . .

    > How to Upload and Post Screenshots and Files at Ten Forums

    I hope this helps.

I assume you "checked prior to leaving home" using your Windows 10 computer.
Perhaps it's not showing you parts of the folder tree that you do not have access permission for.
Try taking ownership of the disk itself then giving yourself Full control of its contents and then seeing if it then shows everything.

    Best of luck,

Hi, how exactly did you save them, and in what format?

Were there files and folders other than the photos on the disk?

Thanks for your help. I'm not sure that I understand your URL suggestions, but I'm showing a screenshot below of Disk Management and also a return from right-click "properties".W10 SDD files not found in W11-w11-screenshot.jpg

There's no drive letter.. so Windows can't 'see' the disk.. you need to allocate one. (Disk 1)

The partition on Disk 1 is healthy, but has no drive letter assigned. Right-click on the partition and give it a drive letter, then you'll be able to see it in File Explorer.

I saved the files in their native format, and there certainly were other files/folders other than photos.

At present then you can't ass any of those files. If you assign a drive letter as above, you should see them...

    native format
? Could you explain that? Thanks.

WOAH! So simple. I've spent literally hours making screenshots and adding them to Powerpoint on this issue. And the answer was so simple. Thanks so much....
