    The Persistence of Folder Attributes

    The Persistence of Folder Attributes-m1.png
I know how to change folder attributes so that's no biggie.
I change stupid attributes like #, Title, and Contributing Artists, etc. to more useful ones like Size and Length.

However after I've changed all the attribute columns to the ones I want (Size and Length), everything stays as I've set them, until I later decide to add or subtract or change another folder or file within that set of folders/files. Then it decides to reset all the attributes back to the original (default, I guess) ones pre-ordained by the god known as MS.

Is there a way to make these attribute changes more...persistent?

Each category automatically chooses several attributes Microsoft deems are best for you...puny humans.
Is there a way around that? Can I make other attributes as persistent as the MS prescribed ones?

Hi, just wondering if what you're seeing is related to this:
Change folder view template for all folders in Windows 10

“Note that despite setting these views, Explorer still remembers the views of individual folders that you change later after clicking "Apply to Folders". For example, if you set Pictures folder to Extra Large Icons and then clicked "Apply to Folders" then by default, any folders containing Pictures will now have Extra Large icons view. But if you were to change one of your specific folders containing Pictures to Medium icons, Explorer will remember that view for that particular folder.

In addition, when you access any folders from their Libraries, the folders will always follow the parent library's view. So if you directly opened the My Documents folder at C:\Users\<your user name>\Documents, then it will show you the view you've set. But if you access the same folder from the Documents Library, it will show you in the view that you use for the Documents Library.”

My - probably limited- understanding of the default folder templates is that you
    a. Can't create a new one
    b. Can't amend the existing ones
    See e.g. discussion here:
Changing Built-In Folder View Templates For Windows Explorer

By way of comparision: example of adding a column header for a number of folders:

Apply Folder View to All Folders of Same Type in Windows 10

Note this useful tutorial- if things go wrong or it seems no longer possible to change a folder view:

Thanks for your very detailed and diverse reply, Dalchina. However, after reading all that it still looks like I'm in the same predicament, it's like a catch-22. MS isn't selling anything anymore. They're just manipulating.

I set up a folder and some subfolders on my desktop, and added certain items as column headers in a couple: the topmost folder I designated as Music, the others, General, bar 1 as Pictures.
I tried logging off, on and making changes.

    I saw nothing untoward.
Tried again with all folders as Music.
Are you seeing only subfolders of the folder whose columns you are changing affected?

Perhaps your folders are located differently, or there's some other factor..

As a general comment, the folder template concept does seem incompletely developed.

I tried manipulating some of my folders including changing to Music attributes, customizing details, open-close Explorer, logoff/logon. Going back into music folder, changing details again. Everything seemed to stay as I set it.

I looked in the thread and computer information but couldn't find the version on Windows 10 that is misbehaving for the OP.

I use 1809 and all seems to function as I would expect. What version of windows 10 are you using Corona?

    I'm using version 1903.

There is a difference I failed to mention. I use Stardocks' Fences3 app. My working libraries are on my D-drive, I don't use the C-drive libraries, because, well, you know, a-duh.
The D-drive libraries are fed through a D-drive portal folder and fenced on my desktop.

So that's prolly what's causing some bifurcation.
Oh well, it's not a big deal or high priority issue with me. As usual I was just a bit curious. But thank you again.
