I know, its a really old version of office (2007) but still works fine for this company.
4 Windows updates are all failing with the same error 0x80072af9
It may be that microsoft have removed these from the windows update vault as the product is no longer supported but i've not known this before - has anyone else seen this?
Updates are.. KB3127889, KB3127949, KB3127948, KB2986253
Ok, Downloaded and installed all updates manually
Rebooted PC
Checked for updates and see all 4 still listed .. but.. they all disappear in windows update and then return with the same Error 0x80072af9
This suggests to me that they were probably installed all along but windows update is in difficulty and cant seem to mark them as installed.
What to do now ?

FWIW I have a machine which was Windows7/Office 2007 and upgraded it to Windows10. I have system images for both, so can swap back and forth at will.
The Windows 7 system has consistently found and installed updates for both Windows and Office 2007.
In Windows 10 having 'check for other Microsoft products' ticked used to work. Recently it not only failed to find Office updates, but also gives errors on checking for window updates, the error codes seemly associated with 'server time outs'. Now it seems to be working again (I've just run 'check for updates' to find out). This would seem to imply it's a problem at Microsoft's end that they are aware of.
Office 2007 updates were installing fine here until the November updates came out - they all failed again this month as well. They install fine using Windows Update Mini Tool (WUMT) it is a different front end GUI for windows update - only thing is it has been taking 1-2 hours to "check for updates", but everything installs fine in the end...
